THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS 2001
This first movie is Point Break with cars, as it follows Paul Walker as a undercover cop infiltrating the night drag racing scene to find a gang of robbers. That sums up the plot. but things get complicated when he befriends the leader of the gang ( Vin Diesel ) and falls for Diesel's sister. The line between right and wrong becomes blurred.
This movie is every thing the similar Gone In 60 Seconds should have been.

THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS TOKYO DRIFT 2006
Different location same movie.
Now set in Tokyo, where the world of drift racing originated. This movie although very shallow is almost as good as the original, the new locations are like a breath of fresh air, but with more mind-blowing stunts and brilliant race sequences than ever, this film hits all the right notes. Also the ending is a excellent suprise.

Yes the movies are shallow, have poor written characters
but for thrills and spills this box-set is excellent value for money. Brilliant undemanding entertainment.

I would have rated this with zero stars, but seeing that is not an option, I have to give it one. And purely for arguments sake, I'll give it to Vin Diesel. You have to admit, the man is cool.

Everything else here falls short. And how convenient for this review, you can apply any and all of the following comments to any of the three movies: the plot is B-A-D, the acting is missing in action and worst of all the cars defy all physics. Not cool, if you are supposed to depict actual souped-up race cars in high-speed action. And the second instalment of this drivel is sponsored by Hyundai, no less. Enough said.

If you get this "ultimate collection" DVD set and think you are getting all the extras ever made for all three movies, you are badly mistaken. Ultimate it is not and a lot of the bonus material was left out. There are R2 two-disc editions available for both the original installment and Tokyo Drift -- God forbid, if you are interested in buying any of these… more »
