Acclaimed writer Andrew Davies turns his talents to one of Charles Dickens' most brilliant novels - arguably the greatest ever depiction of Victorian London. Fresh and imaginative, yet faithful to the original, this thrilling fast-paced adaptation is shot with a contemporary edge.
At its heart is the story of the icily beautiful Lady Dedlock, who nurses a dark secret, and the merciless lawyer Tulkinghorn, who seeks to uncover it. The generous John Jarndyce, struggling with his own past, and his two young wards Richard and Ada, are all caught up, like Lady Dedlock, in the infamous case of Jarndyce vs. Jarndyce, which will make one of them rich beyond imagination if it can ever be brought to a conclusion. As Tulkinghorn digs deeper into Lady Dedlock's past, he unearths a secret that will change their lives forever, and which is almost as astounding as the final outcome of the Jarndyce case.

Without a doubt, being a small fan of Dicken's novels and having seen a few of the television and film adaptations, this is one of the best TV dramas I have ever seen alone. Every episode brings new passion and suspense, the acting is flawless, and the plot and characters may take a while to get used to but are outstanding. I couldn't take my eyes off it from the first till the last episode. Bleak House is flawless, sensual and mesmerising entertainment, one of the best television programmes I've ever seen. It's moving storyline is excellent, and would keep anyone gripped, this is a must especially for Dicken's fans. Bleak House is television drama turned art. 10/10 Highly recommended.
Gillian Anderson is reason to watch it alone. I think everyone deserves to see a perfect piece of television.
