Supernatural is a great horror series but at the same time it has one of the best sense of humour one can find in a show which is not comedy.
I recommand you give it a try. The series continue to evolve in the later seasons and im sure it will keep you hooked!

Really Picks up after the First Few Episodes

I purchased this first season on DVD having heard a number of positive reviews and while the opening episodes are certainly entertaining enough I wasn't initially hooked on the show. Still I decided to stick with it and am now very glad I did as once the characters and mythology of the show have had time to develop this is top notch entertainment, making for unmissable viewing in later series.

Supernatural follows the demon-hunting exploits of brothers Dean and Sam following the death of Sam's college girlfriend. Much like The X-Files Supernatural contains a mixture of stand alone and mythology episodes and while the mysterious plots are certainly interesting this is never a show that takes itself to seriously. In the majority of episodes this show is simply out to entertain the viewer and it is very rare that it does not deliver on that goal.

  Unmissable

If you are after some fairly light hearted, but very entertaining viewing, i would suggest you should not miss this!. My family have all sat glued to the goggle box watching this over the last couple of weekends. The story line is superb, the acting also excellent but most of all ( and i work in a prison so i'm used to it) no swearing in every sentence. My son who is ten has been able to sit and watch this without me fearing he will learn some new expletive or another. I cannot praise this series enough, to the extent that i have just ordered series two and cannot wait to dive into the world of Sam and Dean again. Would definitely recommend this should you want to escape the reality of humdrum every day life.

  Excellent Debut

Supernatural Season 1 is a brilliant way to kick off a series which delivers season on season. The premiere sets up the franchise perfectly: Two brothers, Sam and Dean Winchester leave normailty behind to help rid the world of demons and monsters, with personal revelations and emotional storylines entwined with the episodic format of the show.
Each episode is usually a stand-alone, with the demon/monster of the week, with the storyline often resolved by the end of the on average 40 minute episode. Don't let this put you off, the episodes are fast paced and highly engaging, keeping viewers hooked until the end. A highlight of the season in this format must be 'Dead In The Water', which also guest stars Amy Acker, who delivers an always great performance.
However, throughout the season, there are multiple running arcs, such as Dean and Sam's search for their father, Sam's adjustment into the life he has been thrown into, and the ongoing battle with Yellow Eyes and Meg...I won't give too much away there. These story arcs are gripping and leave you longing for answers, which are provided at exactly the right moment, with a lot of suspense but never holding on for so long you're bored. This is what every show should be like.
The acting within the show is outstanding, and the two leads, Sam (Jared Padeleki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) give brilliant performances every episode, highlighting their versatility and strong abilities as actors. The supporting cast, especially the introduction of Jim Beaver as Bobby Singer in the thrilling season finale 'Devils Trap' are superb, and Bobby will go on to become one of the most liked characters on the show.
Overall, Season One of Supernatural is practically perfect, leaving room for improvement which is demonstrated in the Seasons that follow, with each successive Season being more impressive than the last. Highlights of this incredible first season are 'Dead In The Water', 'Scarecrow', 'Asylum', and 'Devils Trap'.
Supernatural is a brilliant show which appeals to a wide audience. If you want an excellently written, excellently acted, fast paced and exciting show to get addicted to, then Supernatural it should be!!!

Supernatural.. Now if i could express how much i liked this series in words, writing this review would be a lot easier.

The whole series is amazing, gripping at every corner. Every episode, every season is just utter fantastic. I have been watching from day 1 when it first came out and have all the seasons on DVD.

I seriously recommend this to anyone but please start at series 1 and dont google the plot. You really need to enjoy it and find out how the whole thing progresses. All the twists and unexpected turns just make the whole experience so much better. I know back when i was watching season 1 or 2 and wanting to know so bad what happened in the next season. But for you lucky people who will start watching this now. You are in luck because you dont have to undergo the pain and tortue of having to wait a few months for the next episode to come out. Oh no.. you can just watch season 1-4 wait until 18/10/2010 and enjoy season 5.

And after you have experienced the utter thrill of season 5, you need not be dissapointed, because Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki have signed for at least another 2 seasons. i say bring it on. All the way to season 50 lol.

Take my advice... just watch the dam thing!!!

Amazing storyline, great acting (which is unusual for a first season - look at buffy and charmed etc) keeps you gripped all the way through the series and then leaves you wanting more. 5 stars!
