This is another cool underrated film that is certainly worth checking out if you love good martial arts movies! There are not too many cool ninja films lately so it makes this even more of a treat! The action is great, there are some pretty cool fight scenes from the good cast, there is loads of blood spraying all over the screen!! The story is simple and easy to sit back and cruise along to! Sure to entertain most action fans, worth checking out. NOT as good as the even more awesome NINJA ASSASSIN which is also available!!
Movie about two students one turns into a ninga assassin in want of a sacred box of ninga weapons passed down through the generations and the other is to protect the box of weapons.
This all leads to a great little film about dis-honour of the ninga code and some great fight scenes in and around america.
I have to add that Scott ADKINS is awesome as ever and deserves as much credit as he deserves for doing all his on stunts and delivering great entertainment in the way of martial arts.
If you liked undisputed 2 (scott adkins) then get this.
I brought this with the attitude that these days most serious martial arts movies are less cheese and more culture. I was proven wrong, say no more.
Since the demise of Cannon Films, there has been a distinct lack of movies about Ninja. While for many this will have slipped by completely unnoticed, there will be those feeling nostalgic for the days when Michael Dudikoff rushed around colourful Phillipino locations stopping for inordinate amounts of combat with mystical hooded assassins. After years of waiting, Ninja fans - and there must be some out there - have been rewarded with the release of 2 new movies. First out on DVD is the imaginatively titled "Ninja" - not be confused with the other bigger budgeted Warner Bros release "Ninja Assassin". This Ninja is unleashed by Nu Image, a company specialising in cheap and cheesy low budget action flicks. Not dissimilar to the glory days of Cannon in fact. The plot here is strictly standard issue: American Orphan Casey (Scott Adkins) has been raised in a Japanese dojo where he has been taught the ancient skills of ninjitsu by his mentor, Sensei (Togo Igawa). With a rogue assassin on the loose and some precious artefacts at risk, Casey is ordered back to the States where he must protect a chest filled with sacred weapons belonging to the last great Ninja. Cue the requisite amount of twirling bodies, bone snapping and blood letting (though less gratuitous than "Ninja Assassin"). The swift pace helps to hide a dearth of originality, not to mention a thrifty budget - with a backlot in Bulgaria standing in for the mean streets of New York. Adkins makes for a bland hero, though at least he handles the fight scenes convincingly. The set pieces are competently staged by director Florentine, and while the movie manages to be moderately entertaining it will be quickly forgotten afterwards.
As stated in previous reviews this Ninja movie is not to be confused with the excellent Ninja Assassin.
What it is, is a fast paced Direct to DVD action movie. It wears it's limitations on it's sleeve and to be honest it's very entertaining. Directed with style by Isaac Florentine (Undisputed 2) and making the most of it budget limitation there is never a dull moment. The fight scenes are breathless and very impressive and shows off Scott Adkins matial arts skills to good effect. Like most films of this nature the plot does not really matter, as it just joins the dots to the next bout of action. Although lacking the bigger budget and blood lust of Ninja Assassin, Ninja is a great little action movie, anybody who in the 1980's could not get enough of Ninja movies such as American Ninja should get a kick out of this.
Well worth watching.
