Winner of four Academy Awards, 'The Right Stuff' chronicles the story of the pioneering Mercury astronauts: Shepard, Grissom, Glenn, Carpenter, Schirra, Cooper and Slayton, are the first Americans to ride a primitive spacecraft solo into a new frontier. Preceding them in the history books was the legendary Chuck Yeager who, far removed from the awesome media spotlight that would focus on the "spacemen" a decade later, became the first man to break the sound barrier piloting the fabled X-1...

This is a perfect three hour history lesson, of the chronicles of America's early space program. From the breaking of the sound barrier to the start of the mercury project, and the start of the space race. Every thing in this film is perfect, The cast play the real life characters with conviction. Ed Harris, Dennis Quade, and Fred ward have never been better. The film spans a massive 20 years of aviation history, but the film is about the time, and captures it to perfection. As America wanted to make these ordinary guys into national hero's. The film is also funny with the early failures, but also shows what massive dangers these guys were up against. This is three hours of perfection. The film may be long, but it gripps every second of it's running time.
This is a superior film to Apollo 13. This is a true forgotten classic.
