Something rotten is brewing beneath the industrial mecca known as Raccoon City. Unknown to its millions of residents, a huge underground bioengineering facility known as The Hive has accidentally unleashed the deadly and mutating T-virus, killing all of its employees. To contain the leak, the governing supercomputer Red Queen has sealed all entrances and exits. Now a team of highly-trained super commandos including Rain, Alice and Matt must race to penetrate The Hive in order to isolate the T-virus before it overwhelms humanity. To do so, they must get past the Red Queen's deadly defenses, face the flesh-eating undead employees, fight killer mutant dogs and battle The Licker, a genetically mutated savage beast whose strength increases with each of its slain victims.

Anderson does wonders on a restricted budget lifting Resident Evil to a stylish and engaging blood bath thus saving us from the horrors of the Doom adaptation.
The zombie elements are all present and correct borrowing effectively from Day Of The Dead (watch the lift!) but the Umbrella Corporation conspiracy is what really keeps the audience's interest.
Anderson once again proves how underrated a director he really is-the opening sequence is a master class of suspense and the closing shot is an astonishing way for us to anticipate the sequel. As a genre director he really deserves a crack at a reasonable budget to see what he could really deliver.

Should have been based on the game

I was very excited about watching this film and I was waiting for the characters from the game and the mansion to appear and they never did. The actors were annoying and the story was terrible. The little girls voice was irritating and I just wished shed shut-up. Resident Evil was a game that could have been made into a successful motion picture and destroyed by a director that didn't have a clue. Either they should have got a better director or base it on the game but no necessary copy it identically just change it here and there so it didn't become predictable if you've played the game. My advise stick to the games.

A tense, terrifying opening sequence. Anderson gives us a film that's a visual feast. All around, the performances are pretty good. Good special, make-up, and visual effects. At least a couple good scares. Some awesome set pieces; my personal favorite being the one involving lasers. Amazing production design. This modern zombie flick is a whole new dimension.

 Resident Beauty

Resident Evil does a great job of moving a lot of the less interesting elements of the story along very quickly resulting in more action and more bag for your buck... literally. This film definitely will not win an Academy Award, it will not even be considered and I'm not saying it should be but it is important that we respect these kinds of films just as the others. They provide some fundamental basic necessities us moviegoers need; escapism, fantasy and entertainment. I really enjoyed this film, its slick and provides for a few genuine 'boo' moments. The film contains some really cool and well implemented special effects but does not fall into the trap of overusing them, the soundtrack is heavy and again ties in well with the scenes it is used with, the soundtrack itself is headed with the main theme by Marylin Manson, some very memorable kill scenes such as the 'zombie dogs' and 'laser light' another positive aspect of this film is it allows for teen and the older perverts to gawp at the incredibly beautiful Milla Jovovich in a very cool outfit.

Watchers of the film are heavily rewarded at the films somewhat cliff-hangerish ending with a very surprising, unpredictable and dare I say satisfying 'freeze-frame' type of nude scene by the one and only Jovovich, although admittedly disappointing for viewers who have already mentally undressed her at this point...

The downside? If you're looking for a super-intensive and immersing narrative that guides the characters on a journey of self-discovery and adventure, you will not find this here. Some of the characters are a little one dimensional and obvious in their motivations having said that the two kick-ass females make up for, in this films case, minor downsides... Overall Anderson's Sci-fi, horror, action adventure film is a success on many counts.

Fans of the game on the whole should be pleased with a very pleasing adaptation, the zombies are present, the zombie dogs are present, eerie atmosphere with occasionally 'jumpy' moments are here and some of Resident Evils in game camera angles are present. I have played the game and personally the only ting the game fans should be disappointed about is that they're not playing it.

So to conclude a very entertaining film with some surprise and memorable moments, decent story that moves well with haste and a proportionate amount of action and Milla Jovovich! Well recommended for fans of the above mentioned genres and virgins to the resident evil, which is sure to continue into at least a trilogy.

 Cant get enough of it
