Being a huge fan of early America's gangsters and criminals, anything about John Dillinger or Baby Face Nelson was a must see for me.
The story is quick to get going, it doesn't hold back bringing you excitement from the beginning. The story begins developing nicely but then hits a weak patch when Dillinger meets the leading lady, the story becomes bland and drifts off a little. When it eventually comes back it comes back with a bang and its better than ever, it's fast moving and very interesting.
The acting is nothing special, Dillinger doesn't come across as Dillinger, he comes across as Johnny Depp, all you can see is the actor and not the character. Christian Bale also comes over a tad unnatural at times but its bareable.
The film has a number of faults, facts and fiction seem to get blurred frequently in this movie, a number of scenes are purely for the big screen and even some events were created especially for production.
So as a biographical movie goes it fails completely.
Overall: It's fake, the dates are incorrect, it's over-acted and it's nothing special but... I really Enjoyed It!
Public Enemies isn't as good as it could've been, it's not one of the best movies about that era but it's still a good watch. I felt well entertainined and truly enjoyed the film for the most part.
