Five years before 'The Silence of the Lambs' Michael Mann directed this stylish thriller, based on Thomas Harris' first Hannibal story - Red Dragon. Now recognised as a cult classic, it is every bit as brilliant and terrifying as its sequel.

Brian Cox is magnificent as Hannibal Lecter, the serial killer who holds the key to tracking down a mass murderer who has a perverse penchant for voyeurism.

William Petersen as Detective Will Graham is totally convincing as a man with an extraordinary talent that of entering a serial killer's personal nightmare landscapes...

 Filmaking Perfection!

This is the Best acting you will ever see in a Film of this Genre,William Petersen is nothing short of superb, you really feel for his character of Will Graham, that he has suffered and the story is about his redemption.
Tom Noonan is also a revelation as the Psychotic but somehow Tragic Dollarhyde, just watch the scene with him Reba and the Tiger it is beatiful and as with all of Micheal Manns films the music fits every scene superbly.
This edition also comes with a superb commentary by Micheal Mann and two Fascinating documentarys.
Forget the Risible "Red Dragon", Manhunter is sheer Perfection, brilliantly acted by all concerned and now you can even get the best of the soundtrack on Cd now.
All we need now is for Michael Manns other masterpiece " The Keep" to be released and i for one will be very happy!!
You must see this Film.

This is one of hte most atmospheric movies ever made. It far outclasses the comparitively shallow "Silence of the Lambs" in every respect.

The acting is superb, the story mesmerising and the music outstanding.

And all this for a few quid? Buy it.

 Manns the Man!

Before Anthony Hopkins made Dr Hannibal Lecter a household name, Michael Mann brought him to the screen for the first time in this 80's classic. Ignore Red Dragon with Ed Norton, this is the original and best adaptation of Thomas Harris's novel. The heavy 80's styling and Tangerine Dream sound track means it hasn't aged well, but it's leading man, C.S.I'S William Petersen turns in a magnetic, career best performance. Brian Cox is chilling as Dr Lecter who aids Petersen's character in catching serial killer "the toothfairy". Buy it, you wont regret it!

This is the best of the Hannibal Lecktor films !
it's based on the first Lecktor novel Red Dragon ( Later filmed with Hopkins in 2002 ) This time instead of Hopkins playing the cannibal we have Brian Cox, Cox's performance is better and less hammy, In this one Lecktor is less hissable, but more sinister, as he plays his sick mind games with his captor Will Graham. Graham has been assigned to hunt down a serial killer who has been named The Tooth Fairy by the press, the killer is played by the brilliant Tom Noonan. He is a far more dangerous the Ralf Fiens version in the 2002 movie of Red Dragon. The film is perfectly directed by Michael ( HEAT, MIAMI VICE ) Mann. and the film has a brilliant electonic music score. This film stays close to the novel, but in the final 15 minutes makes for more urgency as the F.B.I finaly find out who the killer is, and how he chooses his victims. This has to be one of the most underrated thrillers of the 80's. I can't urge you enough to by this movie, as once watched you will see how far superior this version is to the Later Lector outings. A outstanding Thriller !
