Review

Clocking in at 5 hours and 20 minutes, this DVD has been created from just a handful of performances that were ever filmed during the band's extraordinary lifetime. As guitarist Jimmy Page explains, "We were never really part of the pop scene. It was never what Led Zeppelin was supposed to be about. Our thing was playing live. In that sense, Zeppelin was very much an underground band. The fact that it became as successful as it did was something that was almost out of our control. We actually shunned commercialism, which is why so little official footage of the band has ever been seen before."

Featured are performances from the Royal Albert Hall in January 1970, just one year after the release of their debut album, their triumphant five-night run at Earl's Court in May 1975 and their record-breaking shows at the Knebworth Festival in August 1979, just one year before the death of drummer John Bonham led to the band's dissolution. Also included are songs from New York's Madison Square Garden in July 1973 which were not included in 'The Song Remains The Same' concert film, the only previously released live Zeppelin footage. Other highlights of the release include extremely rare television appearances, including a performance for Danish television in March 1969, promotional clips, TV interviews, behind-the-scenes material, and even a bit of fan-shot "bootleg" footage.

A stunning sound and vision experience Led Zeppelin DVD has been painstakingly restored, remixed, and remastered in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround, DTS, and PCM Two-Channel Stereo - under the personal supervision of Jimmy Page and director Dick Carruthers. The DVD also includes further rare, never before seen footage used for the menus.

This arrived on my doormat the day it came out ( thanks to Play.com!). Quite simply one of he best DVDs in my collection. Brilliantly remastered sound in 5.1/DTS feels as if you are really there! Best track has got to be Rock and Roll - turn the amp up to 11, and enjoy.

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars Zep's best DVD by FAR

This is fantastic for all Zep and Rock fans alike. All the hits, a bit of acoustic in there, everything you would want from a Rock DVD. If you own How The West Was Won, you can see why playing a 5minute song for 25minutes is fantastic and it'll never get old. The special features are great and the menu's are very well laid out and easy to use. After the re-union gig this will probably be searched for much more and the new re-mastered CD will probably lead people to here much more. So if this is yourself, I will say simply, buy this DVD, it is by far the best DVD release that Zeppelin have out.
