 A must for sci-fi fans!

I was lucky enough to catch this show screening at a convention earlier this year and I'm so glad I did! As a self-confessed sci-fi aficionado this came as an absolute joy - not only is it funny but it is also packed full of references and loving homages to your favourite shows and movies of the genre, poking fun at many of them along the way.

I was quick to pre-order my copy and can't wait to see what extra features this boxset has in store - the show was apparently made on a shoestring and I applaud all the efforts of those involved for pulling together not only an excellent cast, but also such an original show with some great design and effects work to boot.

Particular mention cast-wise must go to Claudia Christian as the Captain, who is clearly loving the chance to poke fun at her more serious sci-fi roots - and Jeremy Bulloch who is absolutely hilarious as Doctor Striker!

Certainly superior to BBC 2's lame attempt at comedic sci-fi Hyperdrive!

I highly recommend this.

New British Comedy To Please Sci-Fi Fans

This DVD set is a triumph for the creators of this show. Its such a shame that it wasn't picked up by a TV channel tor each a wider audience. Created on a shoe-string budget but looking way more expensive, Andrew Dymond's new sci-fi comedy deserves to be seen by a wider audience. The SFX are terrific and confuse the viewer into thinking that a lot more money was spent on this show.

I wasn't too impressed with the corny names for the crew members but the ensemble overcome that shortcoming effortlessly and move the stories forward with pace and panache.

The central performance by Claudia Christian is a very knowing, tongue in cheek turn but she plays it perfectly as Belinda Blowhard. The less well-known cast also deserve a mention as well with ship's mechanic Sally Popyatopoff, played by Stephanie Jory and Rachel Grant's Wu Oof catching the eye.

The antagonist to the crew's protagonists, a race known as The Reptid look for all the world like The Thing from the Fantastic Four and have the longevity of life enjoyed only by Kenny on South Park!

If this DVD can make its money back we might see a second series and will be able to enjoy the further adventures of this cast and if one thing is for certain I would love to see more from this promising freshman group as it moves into its second year. And if you are looking for another show to fill the gap left by Red Dwarf and NEVER truly filled by the woeful Hyper Drive.

So give this show a chance and see if you can enjoy it like me. Well done to the makers and just keep up the good work.

 So, so very bad.

A friend suggested this series to me, so it was with perhaps an elevated sense of expectaction that I sat down with Starhyke. This is a stunningly bad comedy sci-fi that seems to locate itself somewhere between Red Dwarf and the Carry On films. Endless, repetitive double entendre that is niether original nor particularly funny is what powers this series, and that's where the entertainment value starts and finishes. Dreadful. Watch Hyperdrive instead.
