Review

The Fellowship has divided and now finds themselves taking different paths to defeating Sauron and his allies. Their destinies now lie at two towers - Orthanc Tower in Isengard, where the corrupted wizard Saruman waits and Sauron's fortress at Barad-dur, deep within the dark lands of Mordor.

The Special Extended DVD edition of the worldwide phenomenon features 42 minutes of additional footage and scenes, thoroughly integrated into the original theatrically released version of the film that made its worldwide debut on 5 December 2002 and which has since gone on to become the fifth most successful film in history.

Customer rating: 4 out of 5 stars The best of the three

I've rated this four stars because it's a good fantasy film and is worth watching but the bad bit is that all of the movies last for three and a half hours per film ( but only in the extended films ) which I find is to long and nearly everytime you watch them you fall asleep but don't get the idea that these film are rubbish because there not. Also the reason why I think this is the best of the three of the films because it has lots of wars and violence (battles) compared to the other two which are still good but not as good as this one espacially the first which is just them talking and walking around for three hours and a half but there is one ok fighting bit. But I do recommend this to all fantasy fans.

Top 10 DVD Reviewer

Extremely true to the books, the three Lord Of the Rings films are absolutely superb. Brilliant special effects, excellent casting, you just can't criticise any element of the films at all. The extended versions are well worth it. They don't just add in meaningless shots, they add in critical story elements that were omitted from the cinema versions to keep the films a reasonable length. The additions change the light the story is portrayed in, and while not absolutely essential, add real depth. They can not be recommended highly enough. The books tell a huge story and long films are needed to retell the story accurately. Immerse yourself into the extended versions and you will find it well worth it.

The Lord Of The Rings dvds are excellent and the director's extended versions are the best, I just cannot wait for them to come out on bluray.
