City Of God (Cidade De Deus)

Superb film from start to finish. Everything from the acting to directing is top notch. 100% Must see. A work of genius. I would even buy it for you if you don't youself!

There is no other film which will show the harsh reality of the countries in extreme poverty such as City of god the story begins in the a part of Rio called Cidade de Deus (the city of god) it revolves around the life of two young boys, Rocket (narrator) and Lil Dice/ Ze; the story does a great job of showing the two boys very different dreams and paths through life in the city of god. This film is by far the best world cinema film I have ever seen and the director Fernando Meirelles does an outstanding job of showing the increasing problem with gang warfare in the future generations. This film is unmissable and shows perfectly how violence just spirals into more violence in the slums of Rio.

The 'gangster' warfare in the harsh streets of Rio De Janeiro (ironically meaning 'City Of God', hence the title) is all based on a true-life story. For a full-on, explicitly violent and at times sickening yet dramatic movie about the infamous gang-wars in the streets here, watch this film as a must. With subtitles throughout, the language barrier is not a problem, and this intense depiction of slum-life is incredible both as a film and as a learning experience.

if your thinking of buying this stop thinking and buy this film. You wont see a more real or thought provoking film about life, drugs and just trying to stay alive.
