Excellent acting, choreography, scene setting, characters, storyline, etc...
The best youth gangsta film ever. The style of how its portrayed explains everyones story so clearly which gives you good foundations for the entire film. Some gangsta films can be unclear or either you just work-out the plot yourself. A true story always hits home better because its not fictional.

A groundbreaking film which emotionally involves you through to the very end. One of the few films i've seen which actually makes me feel for the characters, such as the extremely depressing ending for the best character... A strong, beautifully scripted and directed masterpiece!

I wasn't sure what to expect from this film, I'd never heard of it but borrowed it from my brother when I was bored one day. The first thing that hit me was the shocking violence carried out by children, I nearly stopped watching it but really wanted to know how it concluded in the hope of there being a happy ending. When the film ended I couldn't stop thinking about it, the fact that it's based on reality just stuck with me; it's so far removed from how children grow up in our country I didn't want to believe that it was real. I knew that there are a lot of children living with gang violence but I suppose I never really thought about it but this film made me feel really fortunate to live in the UK. It made me realise that my problems are trivial. I would definately recommend it as it makes you realise how hard some children have it and in comparison most of us have a very easy life.

i first heard of this film through a friend and decided it was worth watching. but after having taken the time to veiw it i have come to the conclusion it is one of the greatest films i have ever seen. i say this because the film has a unique culture that is so hard to find. and with it being based in the slums of brazil it had to pack a punch and it did.. with some breath taking shots, music and very memorable performances from a young cast i would let the veiwing of this film slip through anyones fingers. a complete legend of film 10/10! must see!!!

There is no other film which will show the harsh reality of the countries in extreme poverty such as City of god the story begins in the a part of Rio called Cidade de Deus (the city of god) it revolves around the life of two young boys, Rocket (narrator) and Lil Dice/ Ze; the story does a great job of showing the two boys very different dreams and paths through life in the city of god. This film is by far the best world cinema film I have ever seen and the director Fernando Meirelles does an outstanding job of showing the increasing problem with gang warfare in the future generations. This film is unmissable and shows perfectly how violence just spirals into more violence in the slums of Rio.

City of God is a in a movie genre of its own, if there was one word to sum up this movie it would be "Incredible"!
City of God will show you things which you could never imagining happen to anyone but it does happen, and it certainly did happen to this story's narrator "Rocket". From the open scene its a non stop ride, the pace of the movie is very fast just like life in the slums of Rio de Janeiro, you live fast and die young, sometimes very young.
City of God is just an amazing movie, the story is absolutely brilliant and the fact its actually a true story makes it that little bit more impressive. The visuals in this movie are also amazing, the way in which it is filmed really gives you the feeling that you're there living your life in this terrifying place. City of God is a must have movie for everyone, its a very unique and special movie which will never be copied in anyway. Really you must buy it to believe how amazing it is!

This is a harsh film that really depicts the life of the characters, but its a shame there is no english dub.
