Strange and Bizarre but it just didn't work

Lala Pipo is a movie I was eagerly waiting to see, the trailer looked great and after reading what the story was about it seemed like another one of those movies which only Japan would have the guts to create.
It starts off with a lot of laughs, it's cartoonish and generally just too stupid to be real. It then stops, it goes to another person and it starts to feel like mini-stories rolled up into one. It introduces you to characters but as they're getting to know these character you start to lose a little interest.
At around 35minutes in it begins to lose its fresh-ness, its stupid-ness which is making it so brilliant and in the end you just feel like you're watching an average movie.
The directing is quite cool but at times it just seems too much, perhaps the director Masayuki Miyano was trying just a little too hard with this being his debut.

Overall: Lala Pipo has comedy, it has a little bit love and it has the weirdness that you'd expect to only come from Japan. But unfortunately it just doesn't work, there's something lacking from this movie which makes it a true winner.
Still I think its worth seeing, you'll find something in this movie which you'll like, if you've got a bit of a filthy and disturbed mind you're sure to have a giggle or two at this one.
