In the quiet, peaceful, countryside town of Semeri, Korea, things run at a laid back, idyllic pace. But the subdued atmosphere, scenic views and community spirit are about to be torn apart and ripped to shreds. What was once a popular tourist resort is about to become a one-way ticket to hell on earth. Within the surrounding mountain area the severed limbs of a young girl have just been discovered. The local law enforcement immediately assumes it's a case of homicide. But they're wrong, very wrong. Soon the beloved small town of Semeri will be turned into a gruesome bloodbath, for deep within its cold, dark forests a monstrous, insatiable beast awaits... and it's getting

Another giant mutated animal film following on from "Pig Hunt", although where the American film fails, Chaw wins. Most of the cast survives long enough for you to get to know them, even though thanks to the bizarre nature of "Korean humour" (no offence meant) you sometimes find yourself wondering why some characters act as they do !!
The animated Boar moves in a realistic manner for a giant mutated beast, bashing & blundering about like it actually does weigh a ton & not as if its got a rocket pack up its backside. The creature does appear like something you could possibly meet in a dark forest if you were unlucky.
A good film to watch if you are a fan of monster movies & screaming orientals ( the attack on the town hall is especially nice)
After the massive success of the monster film, The Host, Korean viewers knew it wouldn't be long before another monster/mutation film came onto the big screen.
Chaw is a fairly predictable story, there's no twists or turns coming which you don't see a mile off. It's nothing original apart from the idea of a mutated boar, Despite having said this, it's a very good movie.
This movie just works on the blockbuster level, it's highly entertaining in a number of areas. The action is good with a number of chase scenes which'll keep you on the edge of your seat. In tradional Korean fashion there's a lot of light-hreated comedy moments which'll make you chuckle at the stupidity of it.
Overall: Chaw one of those Saturday night movies you watch while enjoying your takeaway. It's not going to confuse you, it's not going to have you pondering the meaning of life, all it's going to do is entertain you. It's a well acted, well written and well directed Korean Blockbuster.
