Leone's super-western is packed to the rafters with grit, style, and grandeur. The opening is a widescreen lesson in anticipation. The three bounty-killers kill time at the railway station plagued by creaking and buzzing, bored and mischievous, over-confident and smug. They have a right to be, after all this is Woody Strode, Jack Elam, and Marco Zuanelli; veterans of the cinematic west and as tough as they come. Leone revels in the perverse amount of time it takes the credits to lazily roll onto the screen, as the audience wait for the train to pull into their trap. Unfortunately for them they are the ones who will never leave the station...

This is a film to lose yourself in, it really is. The languid pacing and the visual composition are the pinnacle of Leone's career, while the soundtrack by Morricone, and the excellent performances really do underscore what a towering achievement this is. If you like Leone's films and you haven't seen this yet, what are you waiting for? Pure cinema.

This is quite possibly the best Western ever made - with spine tingling moments and mammoth performances from an all star cast, especially Henry Fonda, Charles Bronson (strange but true) and the mesmerising Claudia Cardinale.
The true star however, is Ennio Morricones soundtrack - that dominates events from the sound of the squeeking sign in the first frame to the haunting song at the end .
Close the curtains, turn up the surround sound and immerse yourself in a classic - you won't be disappointed. Good extras on this edition as well.
