This, the last of Elvis' proper films ( made in 1969, amid an atmosphere of civil rights demonstrations and race riots , an explosive time !! ) - very often gets a pretty rough deal by film critics and even some fellow Elvis Fans !! .... I'm afraid that I can't agree with the harsh treatment that this movie often attracts !! .... I think that it's a reasonably good film with a bit of a social conscience ( which is never a bad thing .... ) It touches on various taboo & troubled subjects such as, Drug Use & Abuse, Poor living conditions, Prostitution, Bigotry and Organised Crime !! - any movie willing to do that, can't be all bad eh ? !! - and not only that, but it generally does so in a sensitive and responsible manner .... Of course El gets to sing a few songs, but even they are not allowed to get in the way of what is important in the film .... I think that, 'Change Of Habit' is certainly worthy of your time. Give it a go, you might just be .... a little surprised !!
