This is utterly SAD but will at least make you think, while making you feel uncomfortable at times as well.
Lilya, a young teenager, is abandoned by her mother and left alone with just a grotty flat to live in that offers cold and dark living conditions, and little food for the amount of money that her mother has left her to buy it with.
In a life with no loving parent or adult to care for her anymore Lilya befriends a young boy who becomes the only person she can talk to while struggling with the bleak and depressing outlook of what her life has suddenly and shockingly become since being left alone.
For money, she sadly realises that sleeping with male strangers is the only way to be able to eat and live... but from there, just due to meeting and trusting the wrong person along the way... becomes a victim of sexual exploitation... (from which thus brings you some of the sadest parts of this film).
From the mother, to the female best friend, to last man in Sweden, Lilya is a young girl let down by everyone in this story apart from one.
This film shows you the side of sex that.., as a decent human being.., you won't be able to take any pleasure from -- or be able to forgive the types of people that have any part in it happening.. either.
My lasting thought for this film was how sorry I felt for the main character, Lilya -- as the very people and adults that should have been protecting her as a child... were tragically doing the very opposite!
Watch this film, please. You will definitely feel something from this story.
