  A timeless classic

This is quite possibly THE very best programme of its kind. Spending nearly six hours in Mr Palin's company is a pure joy as he races around the world in his amiable style meeting plenty of fascinating people along the way. The scenery, the commentary and the overriding sense that whatever mishaps or obstacles are thrown in his way, Michael always seems to be having the best time ever. The episode on the dhow has gone down in tv history as a pure classic. Watching this will make you want to join this modern day Fogg on his other travels! The admittedly 'grainy' appearance of the programmes aren't as pristine as some of todays programmes, but I think this only adds to the appeal of the films. Watch and enjoy!!

  Superb, landmark series.

Truly inspirational television, never fails to rekindle my hunger to travel and see the World. Don't listen to the bad review here, complaining about 'grainy picture quality' - the series was filmed in 1988 for God's sake; it's not going to be in HD is it! It's like buying a classic car and complaining that it doesn't have power steering.

Very poor, grainy picture quality . The BBC could have done better. It is a shame as it is such a good series, but don't buy this DVD. You would be better off transfering a recording from a VHS Tape to a blank DVD!

Travel The World with Michael Palin in 80 Days

The beauty of having your own DVD collection is you can watch your favourite bits over again, and that true with this collection of disks. You feel like you are travelling the journey with Michael rushing to make connections at every stage of the trip. You also feel the disappointment when a connection is missed. Although this was recorded nearly 20 years ago now, it is still as fresh as can be to the armchair traveller.
