I Bought Ghost In The Shell as a recormendation by a friend as it has left a great impression on me. Great story, great music score, great visuals the best characters i have ever seen in a movie. It has everything a movie needs. Since getting this i have bought the sequal, the Stand Alone Complex Season 1 & 2 boxsets and the solid state film. And i also bought the original Mana to find out the films origins. To some up a great film and gets better each time i watch it.
5 STARS.

This and the sequel are my two favourite films of all time. The story is not only brilliant but it's also clever and makes you think along with the film. Along with the story is excellent animation and action which keeps you occupied from start to finished.

  Masterpiece

If you know what to look for. this is it!
the detail and re-search around the visual and sound is beyond our ignorant little minds. this is a masterpiece of an era i will stay within for as long as i live. it seems as if we have forgotten the devotion to true art, when i see what`s going on today. this is a reminder of how deep some people go to perfect their projects.
if i could choose only one movie in the entire world to see in theatres. this would without a doubt be the one. its so much for so few to apreaciate. Walker

This film is one of my top ten all time favourite films. If you like thoughtful, futuristic, mysterious, philosophical action such as Blade Runner or The Matrix give this a try.

Great, for its originality and wounderful drawing

Well, I like this movie with its great special effects and wounderful coloring, to make a dark view of our future world, with a sense of realism many cartoons and Anime's fail to get. But real show for it is that both me and my friend like it, even though we are both completely different.

Though we both like Asian cinema, I like things like Infernal Affairs, and he loves things like Versus's, but still both of us love this movie.

The thing which i feel makes this movie great is the originality of it. The way it beautifully goes into random philosophising and a storyline which unlike many modern movies leaves you to work out as much as it tells you. The whole idea of most humans linking themselves to net and making themselves machines, (both of which can be Abused ) is amazing. It also has a deep meaning with way it looks at why we are always trying to advance ourselves and our technology, but also at the carelessly way we cast aside our creations for next better model and never look at them with heart. Also rather answering its own Questions, (both in philosophy and moral terms) it simply asks them and lets us deicide.

All of this makes it great. Though it is a slow and complex movie which only some will like and you will need a philosophising open mind to be able to watch it and understand it, but it is worth watching!

I am not sayying I understand it all as I do not, but still feel what I have put is all ture (or as they would say in this movie, ture to me, which is as close to truth as you will get)

A shining testament to what anime can acheive

Ghost in the shell is the movie that first made me develop a liking for anime probably because it was the complete polar opposite of Dragonball Z which is what I previously thought anime was like. A view which I am sure is shared by many non anime fans

Ghost in the shell has superb animation even by todays standards and some of the most beautiful imagery put into an animated movie. The plot may be confusing to new people but it definitely creates tension and makes the more intelligent viewer ask alot of questions.

Ghost in the shell creates its own unique "Not so perfect after all" future by introducing things such as cyberisaiton but instead of going down the stereotypical "Robots will enslave us all" plot line this film deals with cyborgs managing their own humanity as well as intriguing problems that come along with cyberisaiton for example brain hacking where another person can control your body by electronically hacking into your cyber brain.

I don't reccomend the film to everyone on the planet as some would say it requires a bit of patience personally I prefer to say it requires a certain level of intellect to truly interpret the films messages and understand the point of what's going on or to understand exactly what "The puppet master" says.

The film runs shorter than most hollywood films but thats fine it means it makes a good impression on us and doesn't overstay its welcome and it means there's less time between the intro and the edge of the seat climax at the end of the film.

Definitely a 5/5 for being original, defying convention, great animaiton, good story, sympathetic characters, great audio track (including a fantastic English dub which IMO exceed the Japanese voice track which is a rare thing) and the most immersive world since Blade runner IMO

P.S I think fans of Blade Runner would enjoy this film greatly.

  One of the anime classics

| | See all MattDark's reviews (62)

Ghost in the shell is one of those classic animes you should watch at least once along with the likes of Akira.

Set in a futuristic japan, the movie follows Motoko Kusanagi, a member of security section 9 as she and her partner batou try to catch a cyber criminal known as the puppeteer.

Ghost in the shell has a part in many things, including the inspiration for the idea of the matrix with how people could 'dive' into the net.

While it may not be for everyone, due to the large sci-fi feel, its worth taking a look at, especially if you enjoyed the stand alone complex series.
