I saw this on BBC 1 over the Christmas period 2009 and was totally captivated by it. I like Doctor Who but i am not a devoted fan and have missed countless episodes on TV. I will watch it if i catch it on but I don't wait religously for each new series but i thought this was great. I don't know if this was a one off TV movie but what i saw had a running time of around 1 hr 45 mins and that was just the Dreamland story. Ok so the animation is not excellent when compared to something like the CG animated Captain Scarlet series but it has a charm and style all of it's own. The movements of the characters seem basic, probably due to the fact this is animated from scratch and not motion captured but the cell shading which is more akin to Japanese Anime works well and is a refreshing change. Doctor Who seems to work well too as an animated story and in alot of ways better than the live action versions it's based on as there are no limitations on the sets and special effects that need to be used. The Dreamland story seems more X Files than Doctor Who but the way it's written and delivered is Doctor Who through and through. David Tennant gives likeness to and voices the animated Doctor and carries it beautifully. I also think i heard David Warner's voice for the alien baddie and this made it all the more enjoyable as Mr Warner plays bad guys better than he plays hero roles. If you are a Doctor Who fan this is an essential buy but if you like animated Sci-Fi movies in general you should definitely check this out.
I saw this animation in november '09 and loved the whole thing, sure the animations aren't the best but everything else is faultless, awesome story, awesome voices (they used david) awesome enemies, awesome companions and i think that the animations suit dreamland so that isn't really a problem for me but may be for some others, all in all its a nice little episode to watch and is great for younger kids,
Peace
I was dissapointed that the DVD extra's are much longer than the feature itself but it was still a great addition to the series.
Howdy Partner! For the Roswell incident the doctor (in cartoon form) sets of on an alien adventuary. Good Story line, Poor cartoons cuz the arms go down to there knee's but Im sure if your kids do like doctor who they would like this.
