Futuristic classic, original story and (even though im not a big fan) Great action sequences, this takes tumbles and falls which suck you into the story i really enjoyed this film a cross between 1984, Dark City and The Matrix, well worth the money. 4 Stars!

Top 100 DVD Reviewer

Equilibrium is both a brilliantly entertaining film and a great addition to the Science Fiction genre which doesn't get the recognition it deserves from critics who see this as a cheap Matrix rip off and offering nothing new. However myself and everyone I know who has seen it thinks the film is great. Yes it isn't the genre defining classic The Matrix was but it has a brilliant story, is well acted and has some of the best action scenes I've ever seen.

It has a very Matrix/1984/Gattica feel to it, but manages to be different enough to viewed separately. The brilliant idea of the gun Katas (which you have to see the film to fully appreciate) is well thought out and a lot of effort must have been put into it as the result is something which really adds a lot to the end product. Watching any of these scene for example and you see the effortless cool a cleric has of winning his battles. The scene where Christian Bales character is surrounded by soldiers and he uses his guns as hammers to defeat them is amazing.

Christian Bale yet again shows that he can play any type of role and really gives the role an emotional edge, plus his character looks very cool and calm whilst being able to defeat his enemies.

Not much more I can add to this review (without going on for hours) as the film should really do the talking and it does that very well. Basically if you like Sci-Fi, nihilistic or action films then you will really like it.

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars 5 Star Film...

In my opinion this film deserves alot more than it got, I think the storyline is original and the acting is great. Bale's performance is spot on, the story revolves around a world in which emotion has been removed, Bale is one of the eleet members of the Clericks who are tasked with killing anyone or anything who feels in this world, but upon killing one of his own he begins to question the world in which he lives and becomes more and more estranged from it and delves deeper into the underworld, a great film in my opinion and well worth a watch if you havn't seen already.

Never seen such pile of rubbish. Good concept. Crap film. Stop hyping it, it really is such a waste of time. I nearly fell asleep twice and the fight scenes are so below par it makes me sick.

ok so its not the best film ever, but this is fanboy heaven. martial atrs with guns. bale kills 221 peeps in this movie, i think thats a record! really good concept, and very very dark. a real under-rated sci-fi classic, I for one am glad it will always hold a cult status. This the film that got bale the batman job i wouldve thought, he is really good as the lead. good cast too, watch out for dominic purcell and william fichtner from Prison Break, and sean Bean pops up too. Far better than the overblown bloated mess the Matrix films turned into..

When I first saw this film, it all clicked what everyone was saying with the comparison to The Matrix, I saw alot of similarities, a man who can fight any number of people and come off hardly injured, the long coats, martial arts and an obvious rip off of the lobby scene done poorly, however, after growing up alittle and watching it again, I started to appreciate the plot of the story and what the characters where going through and started to think what I would have done in that situation, would I have followed the rest and been an emotionless, corporate zombie? Or embrace my emotiones and join the resistance? All in all, its a good, thought provoking, well plotted film, with but a minor similairty to The Matrix

I've watched the movie 4 times on tv and never made the connection to the Matrix till I saw the poster on play.com. I really think the only things Matrix and Equilibrium have in common are the long coats and the martial arts.
It's no Matrix special-effect wise, any Matrix-like movie (including Matrix 2 and 3) would have a hard time competing with the original Matrix, yet Equilibrium does a fine job standing on its own.
And the plot is good too. And dreadfully realsitic as well.
Maybe you won't talk about this movie all the time like you would with Matrix but should you have watched it and someone mentions it you'll actually realise it left you with some interesting thoughts.
I don't give it a 5/5 coz it's not a 5. Maybe it's not even a solid 4 (more like a 3.7-3.8) but it's a decent movie with a decent plot (unlike Matrix 2 lets say).

Customer rating: 4 out of 5 stars Great film. Matrix-esque in style but still quality.

I have to agree with Jackson here, on the unfair comparison with The Matrix - but at the same time - Kurt Wimmer (director) had to see it coming. A film set in the future in an country under extreme dictatorship - with one man (Bale) who turns out to be the heavily armed, marshall arts saviour. All in all - i thought it was an exciting movie with great fight scenes and decent plot. The only reason i gave it 4 is because i would probably give The Matrix a 5...
