The first series of The Sweeney is full of great writing, great acting and all episodes look wonderful in digitally restored prints. The show is brash and cynical, yet still seems fresh and exciting.
Highlights include opening episode "Ringer", Regan's undercover operation in "Night Out", the great car chases of "Stoppo Driver" and (best of all) the kidnap of Regan's daughter in the series finale, "Abduction".
