Master of horror Ti West, director of Cabin Fever 2, invites you to experience the most blood-curdling night of terror and suspense you have ever witnessed.

Sam is a pretty college sophomore and so desperate to earn some cash for a deposit on an apartment that she accepts a babysitting job with the sinister Ulmans.

But after discovering no baby exists in the household, Sam discover the Ulmans have lured her to their diabolical mansion deep in the woods. Left alone in the house, something stirs in the rooms high above Sam. Outside, as lunar eclipse begins, it soon becomes clear that she will end this night in a bloody fight for her life with whatever bone chilling horror is locked in the house with her.

Acclaimed across the world as an unrelenting, unforgettable journey into the darkest realms of fear itself, The House Of The Devilwill make you pray for the dawn.

This movie was bound to get mixed reviews, you'll love it or hate it.
For those who love thrilling white knuckle horrors will no doubt hate it, but this movie is a homage to the slow burn horrors of the 80's. Directed with a slow and steady pace by Ti West ( Cabin Fever 2 ) this movie is grainy in shooting style, and has opening and closing credits that do actualy give it that 80's retro feel. Even the movie is set in the mid 80's with a great soundtrack. It feels like a Dario Agento movie, as it gets the chills from the excellent use of sound effects, and not full of splatter. Nothing much happens for the first 36 minutes apart from character building, but on the 36th minute comes the first shock, and then the movie builds with some unsettleing moments.
I can fully understand those who hate this movie, but for those who grew up in the 80's and could not get enough of the grimey shocker's of the decade this movie comes as a great retro flashback.
Give it a try, but don't blame me if you hate it.

Awesome horror movie, one of the best in the last few years, very well made by the director Ti West (Cabin fever 2) and the great small cast, because the film has been made to look like it was done in the 80's it has such a great originality to it compared to your average horror these days! The story is simple but very creepy and builds up slowly to an in your face climax, its more of a shock and scare film as appose to a gorefest, but there is gore in this film and its great, it happens when you least expect it and its quick and bloody and graphic! You certainly will think twice about babysitting in a creepy house in the woods after this! Worth a watch for sure a gem of a film!

 Slow burning homage...

It's not gorno, buckets of blood are not shed, nor is there a killing ever five minutes, and theres not a monster in sight. How refreshing!

This is a masterclass in suspense. It slowly builds a feeling of dread with little more than an empty (?) house and a great character actor in Tom Noonon. West's love for the genre is clear, creating a movie that looks and sounds (check out the opening title sequence), like it was made in 1980.

Some reviews here complain about the films slow pacing and poor finale; ignore them. Any true horror fan will truly appriciate House Of The Devil for what it is, a good old fashioned horror that doesn't rely on cat in the cupboard shocks and stomach churning effects to have it's audience on edge.

Wow...I actually thought this movie was made in the 80s. The cinematography is excellent. Very impressive work. Even the story, the acting, everything seems so authentic for that era. The acting was decent aswell. Not a bad film at all.

The best 80's horror film ever made...in 2009!

This film is excellent. The retro 80's styling is perfect. Director Ti West has made a film that refuses to pander to the modern horror audience. If you love vintage horror, you'll love this. It's lean, atmospheric and it pays off. Put it in your collection.
