Bad Blake (Jeff Bridges) is a broken-down, hard-living country music singer who's had way too many marriages, far too many years on the road and one too many drinks way too many times. And yet, Bad can't help but reach for salvation with the help of Jean (Maggie Gyllenhaal), a journalist who discovers the real man behind the musician.

Winner of the Academy Awards for Best Actor (Jeff Bridges) & Best Song.

'Bad' Blake (Jeff Bridges) is a faded 57 year old country singer, once a name, now almost broke and reduced to playing the backwaters and keeping himself going with booze and the odd fan as a distraction.

Until he meets up with a local journalist Jean (Maggie Gyllenhall) and the two connect. Does Jean represent an opportunity for Bad to change his path in life or not?

This is an amiable film where nothing too much happens - in it's bare bones it even resembles last year's The Wrestler in it's very basic story of a down and out's shot at redemption - and in that vein this is all about the performances rather than the events they go through. Luckily the performances are incredible well judged, anchored by the (finally) Oscar winning Bridges central performance ably supported by Gyllenhall's. Colin Farrell and Robert Duvall appear in supporting roles and acquit themselves well even in their brief parts.

As another example of the 'one last shot' style story it's more than well done enough that you can certainly worth spending a couple of hours in the company of 'Crazy Heart'!

 GREAT!!

I didn't really have any inclination to see this until I picked it up cheap after knowing Jeff Bridges won an oscar for his part. What a great film, story has been done many times before but the performances are exemplary. Jeff was born for this part and is totally convincing as the burned out alcoholic c&w singer struggling with losing his grip on success. His grizzled bitter gruff personality is wholly realistic and so is his awakening to his own mortality and failures. The relationships between himself and the mother and child are totally believable and the film builds to a satisfying, realistic end. I haven't even mentioned the terrific soundtrack and amazing voice that Jef Bridges has kept a secret all these years ( except maybe the fabulous baker boys..Did he sing in that? ) Anyway , together with Colin farrell he does a terrific job and this film will be put straight in with my faves!!..Dave

Fallin' REALLY DOES Feel Like Flyin'

Based on Thomas Cobb's 1987 novel of the same name, Crazy Heart is an amazing representation of what its like to have talent and still remain largely unrecognised in a modern society which is gradually forgetting you. The fictional central character Bad Blake (Bridges) is a has been country musician stuck in the past and unable to provide new material while being proceeded by his one time partner Tommy Sweet (Farrell) in the country music business. While dealing with his alcoholism, among various other issues, Bad Blake tries to find himself through the love of a woman whilst trying to write the song that will ultimately define his career.

One of my favourite tracks in this hard hitting piece of cinema is "Fallin & Flyin", which I believe to be an extended metaphor for the way this musical drama is presented. Even though its a largely sad story to watch at times, it still feels beautiful and engrossing to watch. Not only are all performances involved highly achieved but for country and western music fans this soundtrack is an absolute must have (original material sang by Bridges included). So grab a whiskey and a cigarette and get ready to enjoy the emotional ups and downs this musical biopic masterpiece has to offer.

the story is good and the acting superb (jeff bridges peaks again).
in the era of blockbusting action and other mass entertainment, please welcome this rather slow and emotional movie with a beautiful soundtrack: a refreshing experience! five stars all over.
