Absolutely amazing film. great acting, great scenarios and locations. The plot is very easy to follow and simple to understand. I'd also like to point out the tremendous quality of the kids acting in this title. Every step of the way is a gripping and emotional rollercoaster ride and you'll want to tell your friends and even maybe your dog about it. Brilliant film. Deserves all 5 stars it gets.

i was blown away by brothers its one of the best films i seen in years.intense/brutal /dramatic and superb performances all round especially tobey maguire who for me steals the show with his best acting to date.instead of me explaining what the films about just watch and see for yourself.essential viewing and not to be missed.

  Very worth your while

This film is extremely emotinally charged, with very impressive portrayals of victims of the Iraq war, whether it be the soldier himself, or the family he leaves behind. Jake Gyllenhaal, as usual, steals the show, by continually raising his own bar, and blowing me away completely with his acting capabilities. A word of warning, some bits are really very intense, especially when Tobey Maguire is in Iraq, so not for the very sensitive film-watchers. Only criticism I can think of is, perhaps Maguire and Gyllenhaal should have been reversed, although the latter has played this sort-of role several times now, so maybe it was time to give another actor that chance. A pleasant surprise was the actress who plays Tobey's daughter, she is VERY good! All in all, a very engaging film, which will touch you for some time after you've seen it!

  Superbly acted emotional film!

Filled with great performances from T.Maguire, J.G and N.Portman. Extremely emotional throughout with an incredible soundtrack. Highly recommended.

  A worthwhile watch.

This one is most definitely not Hollywood, great little story which doesn't hold back. All the actors in this are excellent, especially the kids. The one I don't get is Toby McGuire, I just don't see him as a hard ass marine. All in all well worth a watch.

  good film

This film is good if you like a drama with a bit of Hollywood sparkle. The film is a study of relationships and family. The film is never flinching at dealing with the issues andthe story is very well written and well told. The issue is that Toby Mcquire just seems so mis cast. His acting is uneven and he just does not come across with any sympathy and seems to be out of his depth. At any point you just keep thinking, look its spiderman as he just can't elevate his performance beyond that.

Not a bad film but it just fails to draw you in.

  entertainment vs award nominations?

this was a fantastic film for those hollywood starlets to flex their acting muscles and im sure there will be oscars being polished as we speak, however, surely the primary point when creating a movie has to be entertainment? this soul destroying and bitter film did not entertain me but left me feeling sad and lifeless. great acting and direction but pointless. this movie didnt need to be made and i cant see why they bothered.

  EMOTIONAL FALLOUT.

Brothers is a rare example of a Hollywood movie that does not over dose on sugar and soap. This deals with the fallout of post traumatic stress from war.
The film did hit a raw nerve with myself due to having a close friend who is still struggling with life after fighting away, and to this the movie is very brave. The acting from Toby Maguire as the soldier, Jake Gyllenhaal as his slacker brother and Natalie Portman as Maguire emotionaly torn wife is superb. From the moment the movie started I was gripped all the way to the uncompromising but satisfying ending. This is a movie that was ignored on it's cinema release, but I urge you to catch it on DVD, this is a high impact, perfectly acted drama at it's best and one of the bravest films to tackle such a devastating and ignored subject matter.

I really enjoyed this film. It really brings home how the War and PTSD in soilders effects families. It gives a fairly acurate perspective of a soilders family and how it changes and develops when a family member has come back from war. Certainly gets a thumbs up from me.
