Some will kill to have it. He will kill to protect it.

Eli walks alone in post-apocalyptic America. He heads west along the highway of Death on a mission he doesn't fully understand but knows he must complete. In his backpack is the last copy of a book that could become the wellspring of a revived society. Or in the wrong hands, the hammer of a despot. Denzel Washington is Eli, who keeps his blade sharp and his survival instincts sharper as his quest thrusts him into a savage wasteland... and into explosive conflict with a resourceful warlord (Gary Oldman) set on possessing the book. "We walk by faith, not by sight," quotes Eli. Under the taut direction of the Hughes Brothers (From Hell), those words hit home with unexpected meaning and power.

Denzel Washington is once again on top form in this great action film.
Set in America after a nuclear war the world we know as been destroyed, Eli (Denzel Washington) is a man on a mission from god as he carries the last copy of the bible to safety.
Gary Oldman plays the bad guy superbly (as he always does ) who will stop at nothing to take the bible and use it for his own evil needs.
The fight scenes are brilliant and very graphic, lots of good action scenes and the deeper meaning of the film that is men killed in the name of god for centuries and even after a nuclear apocalypse men still want to use the holy book to pit men against men to kill in the name of god.
I really enjoyed this film it is different to anything else I have seen for some time and one of the most original films plot wise I have seen this year.

I wasnt sure if I would like this movie at first but after watching it, it was allot better than I thought it would be, the story is certainly original and it plays out rather well with all the actors doing a good job, but overall once you find out the twist at the end, it wont be worth a second viewing, as clever as it is you wont feel satisfied that the movie really achieved anything but the clever ending, I say clever but really its ultimately far fetched. Great film to watch once, you wont want to go back to it time and time again.

 Very Impressive

Wasnt look forward to another Apocalyptic film, having only just watched The Road, which was good, but hard work.
I should have known better,as this is a Beautiful Action Drama, that left me very impressed
I loved the central Story and the purpose behind it, refreshing to follow a story and for the reason to be worthwhile.
The film looks Gorgeous, with Excellent Cinematography, Art Direction and Sets. And a Eerie soundtrack.
The Hughes Brothers Directed at a nice steady pace with bursts of Operatic Action. Action that is Fresh and Exciting.
Performance wise Denzel was Brilliant in what was a quieter role for him.
It was good to see Gary Oldman after some time. And Mila Kunis was effective.
Loved the Johnny Cash name check and the scene towards the end when the book is placed between 2 other significant books.
Only downside was the TWIST they tried to chuck in at the end, they didnt work for me, but I enjoyed the movie very much nonetheless

unfortunately i missed this little gem when it was showing at the cinema, so glad i preorderd it, it has made my bank holiday weekend.Usually love denzels films and this is no exception. It has a great supporting cast too gary oldman and mila kunis. It has quite a bleak vision of the future but also contains the power of hope belief and faith fantastic loved the twist at the end xxx

 A must see......

This film is visually stunning, portraying a decaying, desolate future which looks truly beautiful at the same time. Reminds me a lot of the xbox game Fallout 3 (visually speaking, not story). Solid performances from Denzel, as is to be expected, indeed Oldman too. There is interspersed action consistently throughout the film with a beautiful backdrop of the wastelands and Mila Kunis adding to this. I will definitely watch this one time and time again, if not just for the the expert cinematography. One of my top films.
