I watched this for the first time over 10 years ago and still today it stands as my favourite film of all time.
No CGI special effects or action, just a simple story about the power of hope and friendship.
Andy dufresne (Tim Robbins) gets sent to prison for murdering his wife, a crime he did not commit. There he becomes good friends with Morgan Freeman "Red". They form an unlikely bond of friendship that survives throughout the years. Whilst inside Andy realises through all the bad things that happen whilst there there is something inside that they can never take away from him "hope" and it is this lasting will power inside him that makes the ending so satisfying.
It is a crime if you have not seen this movie or own a copy of it! I have the the book by Stephen King "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption", have a VHS copy, 2 DVD versions and I will buy Blu Ray version when it is released!
Simply the best film ever made, and totally unmissable!

Andy Dufresne is convicted of murdering his cheating wife and her lover and is sent to Shawshank Prison - a prison rumoured that if you're sent there for life, 'that's exactly what they take.' Andy soon becomes involuntarily involved in trouble during the beginning of his stay at Shawshank whilst befriending Red, the prison 'fixer'. However, armed with his superior intelligence, Andy proves himself financially useful to Warden Norton and life becomes suddenly much easier, but there are on going happenings behind his work. A truly uplifting and inspiring story about a man who bides his time to achieve his ultimate goal.
Superb performances by Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. Rated and awarded so highly by so many people. Buy :)
Nothing better

Everyone of us film lovers has seen words like "must see, 10/10, best film of the year" etc plastered all over film cases in video shops. But all to often we are disappointed. This film however truly deserves these statements. The story and acting are the best you are ever likely to see. If you haven't seen this yet ask yourself why? This film is without a shadow of doubt one to buy and worth every penny and should take pride of place in your video/dvd collection.......5 stars with ease.
Greatest film of all time!

This film was superb in every way, especially the acting delievered by an excellent cast. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman steal the screen very moment possible in this emotional "prison drama".
One who hasnot watch this movie, has seen nothing.

This film is the DADDY and truly deserving of 5 stars +
This films combines drama, emotion & suspense inequal measures. A true credit to the superb cast and Frank Darabont. Along with The Green Mile, this film takes pride of place in my collection.
If you don't already own this film, be ashamed of yourself and correct your ways by taking advantage of this great price! 2 hours & 16 minutes of greatness all for the price of a pint!
You do the maths... buy, buy, buy!
