Adapted from a Stephen King novella, this film was perhaps the biggest box office flop of it's time, making only a little over $700,000 in its opening weekend. But if there ever was a redemption worth talking about, this is the one.
Andy Dufresne is convicted for a crime he claims he did commit, and finds himself in Shawshank Prison. Making few friends aside from Morgan Freeman's Ellis 'Red' Redding ("The only guilty man in Shawshank"), he goes against the grain and strives to gain the redemption he seeks.
Frank Darabont directs this masterpiece and whilst his sublime direction brings Shawshank to life, its Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman who make this picture so incredibly wonderful to watch.
One of the greatest films of all time, this wonderful film will both challenge you and warm your heart as you are immersed in world of Shawshank.

This film is a masterpiece, THE best film EVER! from music to acting it is absolutely sublime, those 2 hours and 16 minutes just fly by, is there anyone on planet earth that's seen this film and hated it? I think not, this proves you don't need CGI, large, explosive special effects and uber budgets to make a great film, just a great story.

AMAZING!!!! (shame family guy ruined it for me)

this film is simply awesome! however the fantastic story was ruined for me after watching a family guy parody of it. i have never watched family guy since. Still well worth getting!

  heart wrenching story

if you dont have this dvd in your collection you are sorely missing out. this film will be a favourite for many years to come, it cant be topped. unfortunately, i think everyone already knows how the story goes by now, so it kinda ruins it a bit. but you cant help but fall in love with andy, such a simple guy with his life stolen away from him. i wont give anything away in case you dont know how it goes, but watching his journey through prison, what he has to face and how he deals with prison life makes for a fantastic movie, that you will watch over and over again. magic.

Quality movie, one to remember for a long time!!

I praise this film, it is without a doubt the best adventure film I have ever seen, watch this and you'll get such a warm feeling inside when you've finished it, my mum says "what goes around, comes around", also, you can see what motivated the makers of "Prison Break"!!

One of the Best Movies of all Time

Based on a short, non-horror, novel by Stephen King The Shawshank Redemption tells the story of Andy Dufresne, a young banker sentenced to life imprisonment for apparently murdering his wife and her lover.

Shawshank Prison is a depressing place where brutality from guards and other prisoners is commonplace. With help from friend Red (the brilliant Morgan Freeman) he is able to gradually win both prisoners and guards over to his side. Above all this movie is a story of hope but the brilliant central relationship between Andy and Red lifts it well above virtually any other film. Add that to top notch production values and a fantastically satisfying ending and you have one of the best movies in cinema history.
