How anyone could give this 1 star is beyond me, the acting is fantastic the story is epic and at times truly heartbreaking. It manages to just scratch the surface of what those young men went through THIS IS A MUST BUY, You will not regret it

Firstly, I'd like to reiterate what the two reviewers below have said. I am gobsmacked at some of the negative reviews of the spectacular series, quoting "not enough action", incase you haven't noticed this isn't an "action" film but a historical account of the experiences of marines serving in the Pacific Theatre during WW2, and it does this with incredible accuracy and detail (would highly recommend reading "The Pacific" by Hugh Ambrose, Helmet for My Pillow by Robert Leckie and With The Old Breed by Eugene Sledge anyway but read them if you don't believe me) I guess negative reviewers don't appriciate what this is really about.

As for the series itself, Hanks and Spielberg have done the men who fought the battles proud, a true testiment to their actions and bravery in the face of probably one of the most detrimed and fanatical enemies in the history of modern warfare. Following 3 Marines in combat from Guadacanal to Iwo Jima and back home to the States, this series not only depicts the battles themselves in great detail, it shows viewers the horror and daily grind of conditions in the Pacific which cost many of these fighting men their sanity.

If you liked Band of Brothers, or have a interest in WW2 History like myself then this series will definately not dissappoint! So ignore these foolish and unfair reviews and watch it for yourself.

Did the last 3 reviewers actually watch The Pacific?
One star! Are you mad? This is one of the best and most accurate mini series depicting the heroics of the US Marine Corp and horrors seen by all during the war in the Pacific. The acting from the 3 main characters is fantastic and the stories from the veterans is at times moving. I watched this again last week on Sky Player on demand service and it was even better 2nd time around.
***** 5 Stars all day long.
If you liked Band of Brothers then don't miss this fantastic series as it's even better.

IT'S LIKE BAND OF BROTHERS, BUT WITH BETTER WEATHER!

The Pacific is to Band of Brothers what the war against Japan was to the Allie's fight through Western Europe: The Pacific mini-series reflects the contrast of the war perfectly it's messier, more disjointed and in some ways more disturbing. This time instead of following a platoon through Europe we follow three Marines whose various degrees of disillusionment make this darker than Band of Brothers, that fully show the effects and trauma of the battle's of Peleliu and Okinawa, making this some of the bleakest and unsettling viewing in recent TV memory.
As I stated the tone to the Pacific is darker than Band of Brother, and the film has a slower pace, but that's not to say it's not as good, as this is a truly spectacular companion series to Brothers, and although I understand where some of the negative reviews pointed out it's slow, it would also be pointless to replicate Band of Brothers as although the battles were roughly fought at the same time, The Pacific was a different world and different war.

  to slow

| | See all nick0900's reviews (1)

I expected alot from 'The Pacific' however I was let down. The plot is slow, and very dull. There is very limited action throughout the series. After each episode you think the next may finally have some action but it never really quite happens. I had to give it one star and wouldn't recommend to any one. Just watch Band of Brothers, if you've already seen that, watch it again

  I give up

| | See all RedRobin2's reviews (17)

First of all i thought band of brothers was amazing so i was really looking foward to this. First few episodes where all over the place boring and i did not see any main characters. I though well it must get better as many things pick up after a few episodes. I gave up just after half way through. I thought the characters where bad and it was very VERY slow And how many battles sequences where at night and not long enough total rubbish like pearl harbour.

I was very disappointed with this show and I don't even have to compare it to band of brothers (which is a masterpiece)to explain why. from what I saw there seemed to be no fixed storyline making the show rather mundane and uninteresting, there's no connection between you and the characters in any shape or form and i did not think the acting was that great either because much of the dialog consists of shouting, screaming, or simply a bunch of americans standing on a beach and talking about how bad everything is. The battle sequences are depicted well though so one star for that!

  Dont Compare with BoB

| | See all SimonmKHN's reviews (4)

It sounds hard to do however please try and watch it without comparing to Band of Brothers.

The Pacific was a different theatre of warfare to the European theatre we see in BoB and HBO once again puts you into the lives of ordinary soliders fantastically!

One thing i enjoyed more then BoB is the pre war and post war story of the soliders it follows......its "good" to see how tough these brave young men found it to adapt back to civilian life, nightmares and finding jobs being the hardest things to deal with.

The action is amazing, story gripping and much like BoB a great insight into a conflict which should never happen again!
