Like Monsters VS. Aliens Dreamworks has another retro stylised fantasy-satire that perfectly balances knowingness with affection that will win kids and parents over in the process.
The film is a riot as the evil lightbulb headed super villain is at a loss when to his surprise defeats his nemesis Metro Man. what's a mega villain supposed to do when he has nothing left to defeat?
Megaminds quest for answers propels Dream works latest CGI toon down unpredictable avenues. It may lack the personal magic of Pixar's classics most notably the similar themed The Incredables, but what it lacks in heart it more than makes up for laughs. With the vocal talents of Will Farrell, Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill and Tina Fey the film never fails to be very funny. To add to this is a brilliant soundtrack that includes AC/DC and Guns N Roses, smooth pacing and the added bonus of 3D ( in the cinema) that doesn't feel like a afterthough. The city is the star here: Fights above and around the skyscrapers are both whizzy and woozy while street level scenes recede deep into the screen.
This is one of the best CGI movies of the year, it may not knock Toy Story 3 from the crown, but it is the funniest!
