this is by far the worst marvel film, infact they havent made a good marvel film since the first xmen and that wasnt even that great, any movie that stars chris evans you just know that its going to be dreadful, its the main reason i havent been and watched avengers assemble just yet as am sure he will ruin it somehow no matter how good the other characters are. stay well clear of this film and any other movie he is in.

  Not the typical superhero movie

I was positively surprised, as I've always found Captain America to be among the most dull Marvel characters...

I'd say it's more of a drama than action movie, and the origins story might've been the best of it's kind! The movie has it's flaws, Redskull being the most prominent one, as he doesn't really have anything interesting to say or do... Also Hugo Weaving underplays it way too much for my taste.

Other than that, actors do a great job (Tommy Lee Jones at the top, naturally)... writing is excellent, and action does the job. What else could I ask for this genre.

a good superhero sci-fi action flick

| | See all myhouse41's reviews (63)

this is a good movie. the acting is great and the action is pusle pounding. the story is about a man named steve rogers who wants to be a soldier but they rejected him because hes too skinny and small but a guy give him a chance of being a super soldier so he becomes one known as captian america to Johann schmidt A.K.A the red skull and his army of nazis with lazer rifles. make sure to supervise you kids when you watch it becuase theres one gory sence in the film. this film is set in a fictional world war 2 nazis dident have lazer rifles or pistols

  Aye aye, Captain!

This is a great little BIG action flick. It's more thoughtful and character driven than the majority of Marvel's output, which may put those looking for a quick thrill to sleep, but when the going is good, it's REALLY good. Chris Evans gives a cracking performance, along with everyone else. There's also a really good message throughout the film! Awww!

  The First Adventure..............

| | See all Kevin1075's reviews (754)

The final film in the pre-The Avengers project to bring many of the Marvel superhero films arrived in late 2011 with Captain America and it ends up being a highly enjoyable retro feeling action adventure film with some great production design and fun performances.

The 1940s era reproduction seems to suit director Joe Johnston well (and helps lend the film a quite possibly intentional vibe of The Rocketeer which Johnston directed back in the early 1990s) and looks fantastic. The performances across the board are pretty solid and Chris Evans manages to fill out the costume with just about enough room to breathe!

But like the other 2011 film in the series Thor and even Iron Man 2 there ends up being a feel just a little too much that the film is trying to fit in too much SHIELD and actual The Avengers information (a problem that really let down Iron Man 2) to be able to concentrate fully on the 40s adventure and I confess I think I would rather see more adventures set in the 1940s with the character rather than his transplantation to the modern age to appear in this May's The Avengers................but you can't have it all ways.

Nontheless, this is still a fun adventure that has most of the ingredients needed for a good couple of hours.
