Being a superhero fan, and having watched all the superhero movies, I was hoping for a great movie. Didn't disappoint, good storyline and all the characters work well, a lot of comedy too. Very, very good film.

  SUPERHERO HEAVEN!!!!!

After something like 400 superhero movies- Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, etc- the whole gang finally comes together to blow things up on an even grander scale. When naughty god Loki pinches a powerful artefact, gruff agent Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) assembles his crack team, including Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and the incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) for an almighty bout of fisticuffs. The first half is a jolly romp through the Marvel Universe- with Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man pinching the best quips. But then it goes into Michael Bay territory with CGI explosion piled upon CGI explosion. A huge box office hit, expect these Avengers to assemble again very soon indeed. Superhero heaven. 5/5. d;-)

Right let me just start off by saying i'm a massive fan of the avengers individual movies all have their unique take on the marvel universe which i find intriguing, i believe the hype of this film just blew it up too much for me i was expecting way more and i guess i shouldn't of, the hype of a film can be its fall, i mean look at prometheus.

Now i'm not saying i didn't enjoy it i thought when there was action it was explosive when there was comedy it was gold and when they assembled it was awesome. I feel some characters were not given enough screen time while too much emphasis was put on iron man, as much as i love tony stark the tone should of been spread evenly, the likes of Thor, Hawkeye and Hulk (until the end) barley got a look in.

Joss Whedon did the best job he could of done, the direction was a tad choppy for me sometimes felt like bits and bobs thrown together like a slideshow, he handled the action scenes fantastic and can see why he's already got the Avengers 2 directing job. Also i know the film is on for near 2 and a half hours but i feel it could of been a bit longer to make the story a bit richer, i've heard 30 mins of the film was cut although i believe most of the cut footage is of Captain America adjusting to life in the 21st century.

One last little problem is Loki, i don't think he should of been the villain of this movie, he had his time as evil-doer in Thor, its like going over old versions of what we have already seen, even in Thor i didn't find him much of a villain.

Thankfully this is just the start of something that can be truly epic, every superheroes first story is of origin so it takes time to kick off running, this is an avengers origin story we've had there individual stories and this was there first as a team. Avengers 2 has already been green lit so hopefully next time round these problems will be resolved. Overall a very worthy attempt at finally assembling the Avengers.

Just found out that in the UK we aren't getting any of the special features, including the highly anticipated Director's Commentary. America is getting the lot.

Brits will have to fork out for a more expensive offering down the line. And we'll do it too, because we're gullible idiots and we like abuse.

After four years, five lead in films and the weight of just how the Marvel Cinematic Universe would all be pulled together into one single film.............Joss Whedon came along and delivered The Avengers..........and made it look like making it work was the easiest thing in the world!!

Now I have very mixed opinions on the Marvel Cinematic Universe's first phase of films introducing each main character, as some have been better than others, and I confess that because of that I did not have the highest of expectations when I went in to see that..............nothwithstanding that I know Joss Whedon has talent and love his TV series.

Even at that, I was massively and purely entertained by this blast of pop summer Blockbuster perfection. THIS is what so many other summer films have aspired to in recent years, where characters and a story come first and then the spectacle comes second. In the order that it should be! Whedon does make a few stumbles in the first half hour or so as he weaves together the introduction of the film's familiar villain, then Tony Stark (with a nice cameo from an Iron Man co-star), and the others. Once he's done that, however and he has every character together comes what is actually my favourite segment of the film as each character is allowed to meet, appraise and THEN call out each other on their natures. It's also laugh out loud in places thanks to Whedon's trademark quips and the delivery of some the cast (Chris Hemsworth gets a perfect line to deliver at one point and does it hilariously!) before the action packed finale sets off and while it may be fair to say that parts of the extended action finale in New York may echo Micheal Bay and Transformers, you'll find that while the action is just as spectacular you'll care a bit more about who is in the middle of it all.

All in, this is by far the summer blockbuster of the year, light in tone, but with everything that a FUN summer film should have in abundance! It's almost a shame that Whedon can't get involved in more of the films but if anything is certain, it's that he's GOT to be locked down to write and direct The Avengers sequel, because it's his work that made this film the delight it was!

  Awesome assembled.

Throw a handful of awesome superheroes together, topped with a truly funny script and some dazzling visuals, and Joss Whedon's Avengers is easily the best Marvel film released to date. Fun, frantic and packed so many badass moments, any scene where the hulk steals the spotlight (and he does - a lot!) is icing on the heroic cake. Not exactly perfect, it lacks any true emotional weight during the climax, but with almost everything else, it fires on all cylinders.

LOKI - "I have an army." IRON MAN - "We have a HULK!"

As a fan of comic book movies, this is amazing.
Above all it is fun to watch.
Loads of action. Far superior to both Hulk movies and Iron man 1 and 2. Both which although good, contained too little action for me.
All characters given their part to play and affect the battles. Even the human, non-super ones. Black widow and Hawkeye.
Well done to Joss Whedon. This film is class.
