Oh My God!!! Ashes to Ashes is a really good programme. The standard of acting during the programme is very high and this really makes this programme very, very enjoyable - a real joy to watch. The plots in every episode are very well thought out to make sure you get the optimal enjoyment and I really must say its amazing - its a shame its the last series. A very good programme and one I would definatly reccomend buying - Go Ashes to Ashes.
Anyone that reads my reviews on here will know that I loved Life On Mars (I thought it was some fantastic British TV) and while I also liked the first series of Ashes To Ashes (although admittedly not as much as Life On Mars) I thought that by the second series Ashes had became struck in a rut of things that we had seen before (corruption, medical operations etc), yet come this third and final series I have found a renewed love for the franchise as the writers and creators have pulled off a fantastic end.
Firstly we have the story which wraps everything up neatly and cleverly with the majority if not all of the questions from both Life On Mars and Ashes being answered while still leaving enough mystery up in the air. Next the series is chopped full of great performances by all those involved, particularly Phillip Glenister and the introduction of the brilliant Daniel Mays who easily steal the final show from all those concerned especially in those final scenes; they deserve many awards for their performances. Keeley Hawes performance also seems to have come a long way this series and is a lot better than in the previous two, while Dean Andrews and Marshall Lancaster put in their usually great performances. This final series is also a lot darker than any of the previous ones (including Life On Mars) but this does not mean that their isnt the usual brilliant humour, gags and one liners because there is, with the teams take off of the song Uptown Girl and Genes trashing of the Blue Peter garden both of which will have you howling with laughter and are very reminiscent of the Camberwick Green sequence from Mars.
In all I was very happy with the series as it tied up many plot strands, brought the whole thing back round to where it started with Mars, had many moments of laughter, plenty of references to the characters and the series that spawned this sequel, some absolutely fantastic acting and cinematography and of course it gave both us the viewer and the characters of the show some strong closure. Having risen out of the ashes of the decent first series and an ok second series, the final act for Ashes To Ashes is quite bittersweet but brilliant none the less. A brilliant final series which is more than worth the watch!
What a journey - starting with Sam Tyler in "Life on Mars", we finally are at the end, and what an ending! Without spoiling it, I can safely say that I was not expecting it to end this way. The main cast are all very strong, and comfortable in their roles - in some cases, this is the fifth season they did. I can't wait to get hold of this set.
I have been called this for years and am delighted to share it with Gene Hunt
life was a lot simpler in those days no nanny state his one liners are sheer genius and will be sorely missed
brilliant end to a brilliant show
Not as good as Life on Mars but even tho my friend thought differently i loved the ending harking back to the original series..the pub and the owner..it would have made it more special had John Simm as Sam Tyler made an appearance outside the pub but alas fab ending...
