Ricky Gervais Live 4: Science

Being a big fan of Ricky Gervais and having seen his previous Stand Up shows, I felt this was the pretty poor.
He has never shied away from being edgy and controversial, but has always managed to be funny.
In his earlier shows, there was more shall we say normal comedy, peppered with some risky stuff.
But with his Science show, it is more of the latter. And in my opinion it does not work.
It came across as VERY Arrogant, Mean and Nasty.
It just didn't work for me. Disappointed

Im a big Ricky Gervais fan; his first two stand ups being great, but I have to concur with a number of the reviews here that this comes across as a lazy effort. He tends to waffle a lot and whilst some of the jokes are funny, too much of the material has not been worked on enough and it all seems a bit disjointed. It doesn't flow like the other gigs, which have more depth, ideas and clever observations. I get the impression this has been put together quickly without too much consideration. Some good stuff, but certainly not his best.

I don't think I enjoyed Science as much as Ricky's other stand-ups, but I think that's got more to do with the fact that I've listened to all the XFM shows and the podcasts and watched all the other stand-ups so much that I've just grown accustomed to the humour. A lot of the material is hilarious, some of it is just interesting to listen to, but it's all consistently entertaining.

And you can ignore all the reviews about being outrageously offensive, because there is nothing in this show that comes close to Politics, or even the first ten minutes of Fame. At the end of the day, there's really no malice behind it so there is absolutely no reason to get worked up about it.

I'm ordinarily a big fan of his work (even the movies), but to me this was a bit of a lazy effort compared to his other stand-up shows. Having said that there were a couple of genuinely hilarious stories. Aside from the good stuff it was pretty much self indulgent lecturing.

Worth a viewing if you've been a fan of his previous work and you can get it for about 8 quid....otherwise I'd give it a miss.

I'm a big fan of Ricky Gervais & his entourage, & I enjoy everything he seems to throw his hand to. I really enjoyed this stand up, from reading Gervais's blog he is very proud of this material also. There are a few gags that fall short, and as always some controversy but be happy that Ricky doesn't do anything to try and appease the entire population now he's world famous.

Another strong effort from Ricky Gervais, and this one sits proud with the rest of my stand up collection.

HAHAHA this show had me in tears at one gag, loved it. it did have some dull moments as all stand ups do but recently i have watched the new billy connolly dvd, kevin bridges and this! they are all good but i have to say this one had me laughing the hardest.

I bought this for my boyfriend, I don't usually like his stand up but this had me in fits of giggles. Much ruder than some of his other stuff, The bonus features are funny too A+++

I'm a massive Gervais fan and have all the podcast's, films and stand-ups. I went to see this show live and compared to his previous stand ups i felt this was a little lazy. The previous excursions on stage saw him perform with a smile on his face whilst this seemed a little more like he wanted to get on, get off and go home! Dissappointing!

its gervais, so you know it's going to be good. its just a shame that to me at least, it doesnt stand up to the last 3. some of the jokes are a bit obvious, and a lot of the content he's touched on before but it's still delivered by Gervais so you know it's worth a watch. On that note though - he comes on stage looking thinner than i've ever seen him - he's no longer the chubby funster - although him being overweight made him funnier in my eyes. he was able to poke fun at himself at the same time as dawn french....

plus, im not a fan of the stage design. Just a microphone and a light would do.

I actually really enjoyed this. So was a little shocked to see all the bad reviews. Was a tad ruder than the usual stand up but think it makes it different and a nice change. Well worth a watch.
