Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll is the story of Ian Dury, legendary punk and lyricist who, together with his band The Blockheads, created some of the wittiest, most original songs to come out of Britain in recent decades. During his lifetime and to this day, Dury inspired admiration and hilarity, using his childhood experiences (including the polio that disabled him) and acute powers of observation to fashion a unique hybrid of rock 'n'roll and the musical hall. Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll follows the brave, irreverent Dury from early adversity to art school maverick, from doting father to unlikely international popstar.

Great but could have been little better

Wether you like or don't like the music of Ian Dury & the Blockheads, you have to admit Dury is a legend, the peoples poet in fact. Even if you're not into the music believe it or not you will still enjoy this film. It shows Ian growing up as a young boy with Polio, to his early days in music with the Kilburns and of course the Blockheads. The soundtrack to the film is obviously the Blockheads with Andy Serkis as Ian on vocals. Serkis pulls off an incredible performance as Ian, as do all of the cast. The only thing that is lacking from the film is Ian's later life in the 1990s and the period when he was diagnosed with cancer. Other than that, it's a great film underrated in the media if you ask me.

 Imaginative, fun, brilliant!

A well casted and imaginative portrayal of Ian Dury's life during the rise of The Blockheads. The way parts of his life (such as his experiences with Polio as a child, memories of his dad, learning to be a 'good' dad himself, drug abuse and success) are all fantastically woven together with parts of his performances as if the gig we're viewing is really a part of some drug-induced psychosis.

What's even more amazing is Andy Serkis actually BECOMES Dury. Being a big fan himself, he ensures he pulls off the energy, as well as the vocals, of the original Dury.

A little Deep but a Reason To Be Cheerful....

*This film is about Ian Dury, Singer from the Blockheads. It shows how he dealt with Polio to become an original artist from the Punk Scene
*The film has a great style & is very theatrical. Like the Punk scene the film has a great energy. There's some great Graphics linking the scenes together. At times it is a bit deep but then this is a deep story. Serkis is great as Dury. Its similar in ways to 24 Hour Party People (Also staring Serkis).
*Only downside maybe the many other aspects of his life that were left out. But then, as a film it works well.
*Overall a great film & a great bit of film making. A must see for any True Music Fans.

Serkis in his best role yet

Superb account of the great man and his difficult beginnings. I wish there had been more focus on his success though.
