This is quite simply one of the best films I have ever had the pleasure of watching. Sad, disturbing and hilarious in equal measures, it is unlike anything I've seen before.
Some will hate it, but those with an adventurous taste will find much to love here.
DOGTOOTH is a darkly comic portrayal of the twisted lives of a bizarre and disturbed family. The parents keep their children in a closeted world where they dare not leave the grounds of their home for fear of their lives. This is car-crash cinema. It's riveting in its nihilistic depiction of casual sex and violence, and it gleefully pushes a number of taboos. The parents' motives remain ambiguous. Are they overprotective or just unhinged? Whatever their motives this is captivating viewing that will leave you pondering its meaning and significance even though you'll probably suspect it has neither. Oh, and there's some great dancing!
I was very pessimistic on watching this film. But when I watched it I realized that is one of the best low-budget cult films ever. It describes the way that conservatism rules the society today. How parents try to control their children but in an exaggerated and realistic way.
Also the photography of the film is exceptional.
Generally this film is for the intellectuals and people who study human behaviors.
It really is the strangest thing ive ever seen.
The concept of it sounded good, but in reality, it was just strange.
How it won an award of any kind escapes me!!
Dont waste your cash on this.
Like the previous reviewer I liked the premise of this film, but found the execution lacking. Director Giorgos Lanthimos gives viewers absolutely no emotional attachment to any of the characters, leaving us not really caring what happens to any of them. Yes, there is a seminal scene which will make even the hardiest viewer cringe, but it's a reaction of fear and disgust, not sympathy. Attempts at humour, sorely needed, fall flat and echo in the silence. This film hinges on the premise that a husband and wife have decided to protect their three children from the reality of the world outside by "vacuum sealing" them at home and creating a false universe for them to live in. But because we are never told why, we are left barely invested, with no means of empathising with the parents or, ultimately, the children. Wait for it to come on TV.
