If you are unsure whether to buy this, because you may not be a fan of war films then dont worry. There is only actually fighting in about 5 episodes.
Each episode usually focuses around one mans story of a certain day or week in a key part of the WW2 campaign. These stories vary hugely, showing action, romance, survival, pure fear and even mental recovery from the war.
The drama is incredibly moving and very historically accurate. I have never had a drama move me so deeply, Infact episode 8 and the last few minutes of the series brought tears to my eyes, something no other drama has ever managed. Right at the end some of the key veterans to the story appear in their real form (not as actors) and as they appeared I knew their names before the subtitle came up, such is the similarity in their appearance to the actors.
It is simply phenominal, reviews cannot tell you how good it is. Buy it, you wont regret it as shown by the fact that about 98% of the reviews are 5 stars. A statisitc even sopranos, 24 and many other dramas cant hit.
