One of Harryhausen's less fantastic works, but still, great!

This has all of the classic Harryhausen traits, non stop action, stop motion animation creatures, scary monsters, but this time instead of the magical epic angle and following on from his effects work on One Million Years BC he goes for a more down to earth theme of cowboys discovering a lost valley of dinosaurs!
This has some of his best work technically, the way he manages to meld the creatures and the live action characters together is truly amazing and the scene where the horse mounted cowboys rope the dinosaur is still extraordinary!
It has some colour matching problems all the way through though, which is unfortunately quite noticeable (well, it is if you're a geek for such things like I am), and in the extras it explains this was because this film required so much work he had to forgo preview tests of each set up to have a hope of making his deadlines, and went with 'best guess', hence all the dinosaurs change colour alarmingly shot to shot, but it's still a great film that all ages can enjoy (so long as they aren't expecting seamless perfection!).
The extra's on this DVD are unusually relevant to the main feature for a change and really do provide a lot of interesting facts and opinions on the movie!
One of his best efforts technically, even though it's not quite so magical or well executed as some, and I've never been a great cowboy movie fan so this isn't one of my personal faves, but still, very much recommended, kids will love it, adults will marvel at it.
Cowboys and dinasours together in one great movie-Valley of Gwangi is reminiscent of a seven year old lads bedroom floor-exciting and imaginative.
