Review

After serving a five year sentence for a crime he didn't commit, a bitter, violence-prone Billy Brown (Vincent Gallo who also directs) is released from prison. Billy is hell-bent on convincing his dysfunctional parents that he is leading a respectable life and has spent the last five years doing top-secret CIA work. To back up his story he impulsively kidnaps Layla (Christina Ricci) and forces her to pose as his girlfriend. Layla's understanding of the comical grimness of Billy's life leads him to explore new levels of redemption, acceptance and ultimately...love.

Top 100 DVD Reviewer

Never even heard of Gallo I was sent the film by sony as a prise. The acting was superb, the story even more so; and that camera work! Gallo's character, Billy Brown, was a picture of hate and resentment due to his unfeeling, unloving parents who made it clear from day one that he wasn't wanted, much less loved. This pushing away by these heartless, empty people turned young Billy into a introvert who was only able to find love within the confines of his own dreamy mind. Of course, this was insufficient which drove Billy to acting out in some bizarre and dangerous ways. Finally, when love does come it terrifies him and causes him to push away this affection continuing the cycle started by his parents. At times I found myself rocking with laughter at the antics of these hurting and emotionally scarred folks, but the tale was anything but comical. I wish there were more pictures coming out as interesting and dramatic as this.

this film 2 me is about communication or 4 Vincent Gallo his lack of, he comes out of a prison where his parents perspective of him are that he has been away on business, now hes out he wants revenge. he takes off with a girls car, Christina Ricci who then joins him so that he has a girlfriend 2 take back 2 his parents 4 a visit. at first u look at Gallo and u cant make up ur mind wether 2 like him or not, but watching him bringing himself closer 2 a girl as she joins him on his way 2 see a man he hasnt seen 4 years. even tho Vincent in the film doesnt like being touched watch how they suddenly understand each other. with the music, unusual camera work and lack of script all the emotions say it 4 u.
