Based on Ludovic Kennedy's investigative book, '10 Rillington Place' is the true and horrifying story of English mass murderer John Christie (chillingly played by Richard Attenborough).
When Timothy Evans (John Hurt), his wife Beryl (Judy Geeson) and their young daughter move into Christie's house, they unknowingly sign their death warrants. Christie offers to help Beryl have an abortion and uses this opportunity, as he has already done with previous victims, to strangle and rape her. Believing himself to be an accomplice to a fatal abortion, Evans panics and flees with the hope that his child will be looked after; in fact, Christie kills her too. Evans is arrested, charged with double murder, found guilty and hanged. But Christie continues to kill...
Attenborough and Hurt give unforgettable performances in this thought-provoking, frightening and atmospheric true crime classic directed by Richard Fleischer.

What a great film chilling atmosphere from the first scene. Richard Attenborough is superb and the story is very disturbing. This is a must see for all movie fans and true crime fans but i warn you its not for the faint harted and actualy made me feel at bit uneasy thinking about the story after the film.

This is one of only a handful of films which have ever given me nightmares. Based on the infamous Christie/Evans murder case of the late 40's it boasts a top notch cast while the direction by Fleisher is highly atmospheric. The real revelation here is Richard Attenborough whose performance will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up on end. I have long been an admirer of Mr (sorry Lord) Attenborough who always struck me as being quite a cuddly kind of chap but after watching this awesome performance as the sleazy sex killer I just wanted to get in the shower.
If movies based on real crimes are your thing, you will rarely find it done better than here.
