In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight! Let those who worship evil's might beware my power... Green Lantern's light!

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.

Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax...he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

Green is an unlucky colour for comic book transfers. The Hulk has not been sucessfully transferred to the silver screen. The Green Hornet was just a cash cow for a less than potent comedian. Now we have The Green Lantern. I used to buy these DC comics for a shilling. DC had a winner in this complex yet so grounded Super Hero. A good film is a soup. It has to have the best actors for the role. A good script and a good soundtrack. This does not meet my taste. Too little of the ingredients I mentioned and too much CGI. I doubt if 5pct of the movie audience ever knew of the Green Lantern before watching it. It panders to an American film goer who has bucks to spare and no brain required. It will rake it in and I am sure that another film follows. So much crash bang wallop and so little to enterrtain. Hollywood so often rewrites history to favour chasing a buck or two. It is also happy to plunder the wonderment of my childhood for a cheap buck as well. It plays to neither boys or girls. Avoid.

I was not sure what to expect from this adaption of the DC comics hero, and also the fact that for me the Green lantern was little known about. In a Summer full of comic book movies (most being an advert for 2012's The Avengers) and also the fact viewers getting confused with The Green Hornet released a few month prior. Finaly not forgetting that this film was mauld by the critics and it's box-office potential suffered, but some how some movies sit better when viewed at home when most of the hype has fizzled out, so for me The Green Lantern was a great surprise. Ryan Reynolds is as ever excellent has the hero and has the perfect balance of swagger whilst being a flawed character. The films main problem is it has to deal with alot of back story to fill in the blanks for us who are not in the know of the origins. so the main story that features a fear clowd named after a Laxative called Paralax seems a bit of a second thought. But with the strangest looking aliens in the Green lantern Corps this side of the cantina in Star Wars and featuring the brilliant Mark Strong the visuals and goofyness keep the back story element ticking over well. Also with a well rounded love interest in the shape of Blake Lively the film is never dull. It's also nice to see Tim Robbins and Angela (Tina Turna) Basset popping up in small if under written roles. Even Peter Sarsgaard is having a good time as Hal's once friend who ends up infected with evil Yellow fear and morphs into a tefal man. The action is well staged as you would expect from the Director of Golden Eye and Casino Royale that all leads to a rousing climax.
:LET THE END CREDITS ROLL!
As it features what could be the origins of a sequel,as now with all the back story gone I'm sure it would be a much leaner film, but at this moment with a lackluster performance at the Box-Office only time will tell if this get a green light.
Don't be put off by the bad reviews as this is just as good as Marvel's Thor and Captain America.

This is a very entertaining comic book movie that stands apart from your average marvel film, its good to see an original concept for a change from another character in the DC comic range! This movie has allot of visual effects that look top notch and is partly set on another world apart from earth which is pretty cool, the story is great and you dont need to know anything about the comics to get into it, it has a brilliant cast, Ryan Reynolds does well in the lead role and Mark Strong is very cool as Sinestro! This is a fun filled action packed comic movie thats well worth checking out its certainly one of the years best and most unique films!!
