ROMAN POLANSKI directs and stars as Trelkovsky, an expatriate Pole in Paris who takes over the lease of a gloomy apartment and comes to believe that the other tenants in the block are conspiring to drive him to kill himself. The real or imagined conspiracy is supported by the suicide of the previous tenant.

Trelkovsky finds himself assuming the identity of his predecessor, but the twist that sets this film above the competition is that this previous occupant was a girl. Polanski uses this twist to explore the character's latent bisexuality in an atmosphere of paranoia and delusion.

Also starring SHELLEY WINTERS as the Concierge, ISABELLE ADJANI as Stella and MELVYN DOUGLAS as Mr Zy, The Tenant features a cocktail of bizarre coincidences, inexplicable appearances and suggestions of the supernatural all brought together by master craftsman Polanski in this absorbing psychological thriller.

     Polanski at his best!

A forgotten Polanski gem which takes themes he uses throughout his films - paranoia, conspiracy, horror in the mundane - and creates an unnerving tale. The film is similar in tone to Rosemary's Baby mainly because of its setting in the apartment block but its story is firmly based in the mental disorder of Repulsion. Well worth getting!

     Repulsion mark 2

Treading similar ground to his previous film 'Repulsion' Polanski himself plays the title character this time. He plays the new tenant of a gothic Parisian apartment block whose other tenants are neurotically obssessed with keeping the noise levels down. Combined with his own obsession with the suicide of the previous female tenant of his room this sends the Polanski character into something akin to madness which includes disturbing visions and scenarios along with a tendency to cross-dress and 'play' the previous tenant. It's a moody piece, eccentric rather than truly disturbing but still well worth a look.

     Misunderstood?!

*A young Polish man moves into an apartment in Paris. He starts to become hassled by the other tenants about the noise. He then becomes obsessed with the motives of the previous tenant, a young lady who attempted suicide from the balcony! As the pressure mounts things become harder to handle!
*The Tenant is a slightly creepy and slightly eccentric psychological thriller with elements of a dark comedy! Its a film that draws you in and becomes quite intense. The bizarre behavior of the occupants keeps you intrigued!
