5 Family At WarFungchung | 20/01/2008 | See all Fungchung's reviews (75)This series is as entertaing now as it was when I watched it in the 70's as a young lad. I am refering here to the whole series which I have. It is yet another classic viewing that has been redeemed from the dark depths of time gone by. For the story lines given are easily accepted as events that would have happened in the era and the time leading up to and during WW2. It shows ordinary people of various classes inter-mingled by circumstances and events that affect their lives as individuals and those around them. Yes the series revolves around one particular family, the Ashtons, but the circumstances leading upto given events are very believable if you lived in those times. Ok the camera work coverage leaves a lot to be desired at times, and the acting may be a little "stiff"from time to time. But that in no way detracts from the simple fact that if you like something along the lines of Foyles' War series. Then this series is for you. Just remember it is a series made over 30 years ago with a whole host of house hold names. You would be pleasantly surprised to see exactly who appeared in this series from start to finish.Well worth a purchase or if not. Try putting the whole series on your birthday/Christmas lists. You wont be disapointed folks. the "oldies"like me that is.
