Chris Morris' Four Lions is a funny, thrilling comedy that illuminates modern jihadism through the prism of farce. It understands jihadists as human beings. And it understands human beings as innately ridiculous. What "This Is Spinal Tap" did for heavy metal and "Dr Strangelove" the Cold War, Four Lions does for the modern face of terrorism.

In a British city, four men have a secret plan. Omar (Riz Ahmed) is disillusioned about the treatment of muslims around the world and is determined to become a soldier. This is the most exciting idea Waj (Kayvan Novak) has ever heard. Better still it's a no brainer because Omar does his thinking for him. Opposed to Omar and everyone else on earth is the white islamic convert Barry (Nigel Lindsay). He'd realize he joined the cell to channel his nihilism - If he had half the self knowledge of a duck. Faisal (Adeel Akhtar) is the odd man out. He can make a bomb - but he can't blow himself up just now coz his sick dad has "started eating newspaper". Instead he's training crows to fly bombs through windows. This is what Omar has to deal with. They must strike a decisive blow on their own turf but can any of them strike a match without punching himself in the face?

Four Lions plunges us beyond seeing these young men as unfathomably alien. It undermines the folly of just wishing them away or, even worse, alienating the entire culture from which they emerge. The film is neither pro nor anti religious. The jokes fly out of the characters' conflicts, excesses and mistakes. Crackling with wit and tension, Four Lions is the essential response to our failure to engage with reality and a high toast to the idea that laughter is better than killing.

 Extremist Dark Humour!!

FL (Four Lions) is a film that follows the mishaps of a group of Wannabe Suicide Bombers from Sheffield. Like others i was a little apprehensive about watching this film due to the serious nature of the subject matter. I was expecting FL to act as a platform to provide a religious message or an insight into the motives of the suicide bombers. FL isn't really that deep. Instead FL is an extremely dark comedy. In places the film is hilarious. The acting and the script is brilliant. Not everyone will enjoy this film so if you think this subject matter will offend you simply don't watch it!

This film was really dissapointing. There was real potential with the concept, I was hoping for a python-esc take on terrorism. Very bland, weak, very light on humour. I don't think I chuckled more than 3 or 4 time throughout.

 Memorable film, memorable quotes abound

There are some incredibly funny moments in this film, no doubt about that. You can even see one or two occasions where the actors are having to stifle smiles to keep the deadpan feel of the humour.

It's a very innovative and perceptive take on the well-known "suicide bomber" genre.

I thoroughly recommend this film to anyone who likes comedy explosions.

On a serious note, the creators of this film have treated all parties (the bombers, the politicians, the police) equally in their satire so I don't see why it could "enrage" anyone involved in the suicide bombing trade.

The subject matter in this movie is unsettleing but the film it's self is actually very funny, from the first moments of the recording of the suicide tape you will know that this is going to be very funny.
The four lions are actually four disillusioned young muslims that plan on creating the ultime terrorst attack on the UK, all being lead under self rightious converted muslim.
Two of the terroist cell go to a terrorst training camp, but come back early due to a lttle accident with a RPG, so the cell decide to attack the west in their own style.
This is where the film pays it clever by not pokeing fun a a very real and serious problem, but shows how ludicrous and impressionable some of these young guys are.
What suprprised me with this very funny intelligent little movie is how sad the theme is underneath the surface, by showing the guys truly believeing that suicide bombings are Allah's will and are willing to leave behind thier families, and that this is ok with their loved ones.
It's a tough subject matter and it does not matter what side of the wall you stand on, it stil gut bustingly funny, unnerving and sad, because you actually care for the guys in the film as you see them as humans and not faceless monsters..
See if you iked....

Unthinkable.
