Worth watchi but disappointed that its not as good as last 3

This film is worth the watch, but its nowhere near as good as the last 3. I am a massive fan of POTC, but I think it almost spoils it without Keira Knightly, Orlando Bloom etc. in it, and with no disrespect, I dont think Penelope Cruz fitted this film. Bit disappointed that it was no where near as good as last 3 but still worth the watch.

Back on Sensible and Fun Tides

Personally I had pretty much given up on the PotC saga after the wannabe epic mess that was Part 3.
But with the promise of a more straightforward and fun adventure, centred around Jack Sparrow, as opposed to the Kiera and Orlando show, I decided to venture back.
And as it turns out the movie is more fun, and somewhat of a return to form.
The Story is what it is, Action is good, Johnny Depp is nearly back to his Nutty Best, the rest of the cast pitch in well and seem to be having fun.
Film also has a couple of pretty cool Cameos.
Not brilliant by any means, a good watch, but once all is said and done it's a 3 Star movie.

  A Pirates Life for me...

| | See all themarkyofbath's reviews (57)

There was a recent review in the times that slated this terribly with virtually every aspect attacked. While I can see this is no cult art film with depth and dramatic performances IT IS a film about PIRATES.

There is nothing wrong with this film at all it is a brilliant pirate film with plenty of milarky and pirates and legends and gold and ships. The new characters are excellent and the old ones just as good as always. Jack is back and no different to any of the other films. This shouldn't be critisised as I am not bored of him as I am not bored of Doctor Who and he's been around a lot longer.

I liked Kiera and Orlando but didn't miss them. There lack of smooching isn't missed.

There are three reasons I have deducted a point and these are fairly minor. Pirates 1 is a five star film because we haven't seen anything like it before therefore at best this can only equal it and it doesn't quite. Secondly Blackbeard's Beard didn't quite fulfill its part, it should be bigger and bushier and naturally anyone will recognise that the beard there to identify him for all eternity. Lastly, there will inevitably be a sequel to this, while I will enjoy seeing Jack's Pirates no.5 I would suspect that they need to seek a different tack and location.

I shall dutifully sign up for the next pirate adventure.

  Excellent..............

How anyone can say that Pirates 4 is not as good as 1,2 and 3 is beyond me. Firstly, it is a whole new adventure, Johnny Depp was wonderful, as usual but so were the rest of the cast, new cast members included ie; Penelope Cruz, Ian McShane etc.
Well worth the money paid to see it in 3D, can't wait to buy it on DVD when available, another excellent performance from the wonderful Mr Depp.
I think Captain Jack's character is as brilliant as ever, Ian Mcshane made a wonderful Blackbeard and Penelope Cruz also made a wonderful Pirate, although I think she will be the envy of all Johnny Depp and Captain Jack Sparrow's Fans, I certainly was envious of her in this particular role:-).
The idea of the mermaids in this film really worked well, the young girl who played the part of the main mermaid was brilliant, they all fitted well into the amazing storyline.
Like I stated before, a very different story, performed by an amazing cast, well done to them all.
Looking forward to there hopefully being a Pirates Of The Caribbean 5?.

  It's good but......................

I f you have watched the other films then this will be a bit disappointing, If you haven't watched the others then you would probably enjoy this more.
Johnny Depp is great once again, strangely I think the film missed Orlando Bloom and Kiera Knightly. Penelope Cruz just plays the same person as she does in every other film / advert she is in.
Good story, poor zombies, strange trying to add a completely different love interest.
Still enjoyable but by no means the best of the series

  JACK'S BACK!

| | See all MovieAddict's reviews (1336)

The critics have always given the Pirates movies a hard time, they even tore into the first (and still the best) movie.
For me parts two and three suffered from being shot back to back and the story was confusing and at times made little sense.
To find the fouth film was a stand alone movie with no ties to parts two and three and ditched the love triangle between Keira Knightly and Orlando Bloom could only be a positive thing.
The plot centres around as to what was hinted at the end of part three in the search for the fountain of youth. Again we are joined by the ever excellent Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa the equally as good Ian McShan as Black Beared and at the time pregnant Penelopie Cruz , but as alway this is Johnny Depp's film and he again is outstanding as captain Jack Sparrow.
Under the new direction of Rob Marshall the whole film feels fresher. But there is a down side to all this. In th first there was the crew of the damned, second and third we had Davey Jones and his crustation crew, but in this we have zombiefied crew that no way match the other creatures in the series, the film also seems to lack a few action scenes as once they get on the Island where the fountain is, nothing really seems to happen and this could have been to put to good use and is a missed oppatunity to make this chapter stand out from the rest.
The show stoppin scene is the Mermaids, both stunningly beautiful and deadly this does rate as one of the best scenes in the series. In the cinema the 3D was great, but when it arrives on DVD it may show the faults in the film even further.
For me athough I thought the film was a slight improvment on parts two and three it's still not a patch on The Curse of the Black Pearl.
This is stil top draw family entertainment, and if you loved the original three you should lap this entry up almost as much.

  Captain Jack is back!

I really enjoyed POTC 4. Had some really good moments in it, and a great cast! Plus, it was good to see the monkey in it...if only for a bit!

  not as impressed!!

| | See all joadie's reviews (3)

although it was still a brilliant film....POTC 4 is not as good as the previous 3. it hasnt got the excitement, and the missing cast has affected it. Penelope cruz is not good!! she is the same in this as she is in everything she has done (including the loreal adverts), so that was a let down!! However, it is still worth a watch, Johnny Depp is as amazing as ever a Captain Jack sparrow, so, still go a see it and decide for yourself!!

  The first 3 are better!

| | See all dillian100's reviews (139)

This is the worst Pirates film so far, the first 3 were much better, funnier, more exciting action and more entertaining.
The story is quite interesting but it isn't gripping enough for the duration of the film.
Alright for a night but not a must buy!
