Story: Creative, Imaginative, Disturbing, Emotional
An amazing story from start to finish that leads you in so many directions until its climax which leaves you exhausted and pondering what exactly happened and could that happen to you. I was left somewhat confused why they would want to make a sequel to this but then quickly dismissed it as a figment of my imagination.
Thought this was the absolute rubbish, one star is three too many.
I think the amazing thing about this film is you can watch it time and again, in fact, you won't just want to watch it again, you'll literally need to. Understanding doesn't truely come until about the third time you watch it, although for the first two times it'll still be amazing. It's so unique in that in a way the storyline is up to interpretation, and I don't think there's alot, if any, films that do that. There are so many Hollywood films out there that have obviously just been made to get cash, but this film can truely say it was made to amaze audiences. I would seriously recommend it to anyone, because this much time and effort should be put into every film made. It's incredible.
When an unidentified aeroplane engine crashes through the ceiling of his bedroom Donnie Darko narrowly escapes death due to the fact that he was lured outside moments before by a sinister looking man dressed as a rabbit. The rabbit then warns him that the world will end in 28 days and begins to instruct him to carry out questionable acts.
From the outset it is never quite clear whether Donnie's visions are real or just a figment of his imagination. The story moves along at a good pace and the script is both intriguing and even humorous in places. Despite the outlandish premise Jack Gyllenhaal and the supporting cast come across as wholly believable making for an excellent movie all round.
I have watched this film a number of times, and still haven't agree with anyone else exactly what is happening, where and when! Just watch it and see what I mean!
Not the kind of brainless Hollywood fodder to curl up to on a Sunday night, this is a beautiful film that will make your head spin the more you think about it!
Oh, and there is a bloke in a Rabbit Suit...and Patrick Swayze!
A great film - just not sure why!
