Five hundred years in the future there's a whole new frontier, and the crew of the Firefly-class spaceship Serenity is eager to stake a claim on the action. They'll take any job, legal or illegal, to keep fuel in the tanks and food on the table. But things get a bit more complicated after they take on a passenger wanted by the new totalitarian Alliance regime. Now they find themselves on the run, desperate to steer clear of Alliance ships and the flesh-eating Reavers who live on the fringes of space.

Looooooooong before Battlestar there was Firefly. Didn't catch it on TV myself but can highly recomend the DVD. Couldn't stop watching. Shame the show was unfinished but like Blade Runner before it, people just took to long to realise it was better than anything else on TV at the time. I warn you now though, you will be upset once you've watched them all and you can't get any more..... :(
Worth every penny, probably the best entertainment you can get for your money, there are always surprises and funny quotes, well thought out stories, amazing characters and actors. Joss Whedons finest work, only complaint was it went by so fast ...
During this long hiatus for Battlestar Galactica, I was recommended Firefly, and I was very pleasantly surprised at just how amazing it is. Believable characters, impressive continuity, quirky humour & exciting storylines all contribute to making this one of my favourite shows of all time. Brilliant, and a real travesty that it all had to end so soon.
Forget StarTrek and it's many spin offs, you can shove Stargate where the sun don't shine. This is the ultimate TV sci-fi show. The show was cancelled after the first season, not because it was poor, but because 20th Century Fox promoted it wrong. Only now has the show got the cult classic status it truly is ,and enough to give it a spin off feature film ( Serenity) This is basically cowboys in space, but it's set in a very real and grubby future. The film is self knowing, hip, and very funny, with some brilliant effects for it's TV restraints. All the episodes are brilliant, but what makes this series work is the development of the characters.
The show may have only shone for a short amount of time, but it's light was blinding.
Watch the show before you watch Serenity ( the spin of film) or you will be lost.
A classic Tv show, it's criminal it got cancelled!
I may be biased to all things Josh Whedon but if ever a show deserved to be treated better by TV execs it was Firefly. You may only get 14 episodes (and the spin off movie 'Serenity' that wrapped up a number of loose ends) but you will not find a better sci-fi show on TV or DVD.
