Against the dreary backdrop of Southeast London's concrete housing estates, the lives of three underclass Brits come crashing down. Gary Oldman's conversational, improvisatory script follows his characters wretched lives in crowded council flats, tawdry Piccadilly strip joints, with truly outstanding acting and honesty.

i have seen this film many times and i fill it is one of the most real life films i have seen . i takels real life issues what so many of us turn a blind eye to . set on a large council estate in south london it show the life of drugs and what you would do to get a fix , it also show 's the more upsetting side men hitting there partners.
this film is a strong film to watch but and the end of the day it is showing the real world in full.

 FANTASTIC!

I bought this film on the strength of the review's it had. I was not one bit dissapointed, this film is gritty, raw and sad, the scene in whish ray winstone beats kathy burke is gut wrenching! both actors play there part to utter perfection, i can not highly reccomend this film enough, having personal experiance of alcoholism and domestic violence, this film hits the nail on the head, again and again............ SHEER BRILLIANCE!!!! 10/10

 Unbelievably Real

Superb film, it is incredible how the producers and actors have managed to encapsulate something so painfully true-to-life on screen. The acting is out of this world - Ray Winstone will scare you near to death because you know he has a real life counterpart living on every street. It might be difficult to watch at times but it is important you do so - if only to hate the man!

 Ray Winstone's defining performance?

It is difficult to write a review for a film as good as this. It sents the benchmark for all gritty films where it hits real and it hits hard.

Kathy Burke gives an outstanding performance as the quiet, unappreciated wife, but its Ray Winstone that steals the show as her abusive, alcoholic husband.

Seeing Ray Winstone portray a scary and violent character is nothing new to any of us, but when his character becomes vulnerable and falls apart on screen he truely portrays how volatile yet pathetic alcoholism is.

The convincing performances topped off by some hillarious moments makes this a must see film for everybody.

 Cant fault the acting

The acting in the movie is amazing that would have 5 stars. However, i rated this lower and I might sound like a prude now but I found the amount of extreme swearing the whole way through this movie alittle too much. I understand what the movie is representing but it was just so gritty. So if an uber gritty movie is what you want this is it.
