Against the dreary backdrop of Southeast London's concrete housing estates, the lives of three underclass Brits come crashing down. Gary Oldman's conversational, improvisatory script follows his characters wretched lives in crowded council flats, tawdry Piccadilly strip joints, with truly outstanding acting and honesty.

What a Film

one of my fav films of all time. Acting is amazing, if this was an american film about how harsh working class life could be it would have swept the lot at the Oscars. Being from up the road from where a lot of this was filmed in Deptford it shoves in your face how badly some people still live.
Winstone is awsome, but its Kathy Burke who steals the show for me, why she hasnt done more films i will never know.

I watched this film and am not normally easily offended, this film is not for anyone easily offended by violence and real life events.
An excellent film, the acting really is tremendous

I watched this movie in a theater in Paris back in 1997. It was a terrific and eye opener session for me. There was only a handful watching of course but to me Winstone & Oldman have crafted a fantastic picture of London's underworld after the Thatcher dismantle of social nets.
The title, the acting and the simply genuine delivery of this movie makes it a must have.
If you want to deep dive into the real england and away from Harrod's and the Financial Warf, buckle up, this is your treat. I will buy the DVD now and watch it all over again.
