The Good, The Bad And The Ugly, written by Age Scarpelli, Luciano Vincenzoni and Sergio Leone is the third and last western in Clint Eastwood's spaghetti trilogy. Director Sergio Leone substitutes for the upright puritan Protestant ethos, so familiar in Hollywood westerns, a seedy cynical standpoint towards death and mortality, as a team of brutal bandits battle to unearth a fortune buried beneath an unmarked grave. Joining Clint, clearly "The Good", is the irredeemably "Bad" Lee and the resolutely "Ugly" Eli Wallach. The complete plot of bloodshed and betrayal winds its way through the American Civil War, filmed to resemble the French battlefields of World War One, to end in the climatic Dance Of Death. Arguably the quintessential Italian Western, this 1966 film boasts a fine Ennio Morricone score featuring a main theme that reached No. 1 in the world's pop charts. This special edition DVD has been restored to its full length with the addition of three missing scenes from the original Italian version.

I must have seen this about 10 times, and i still love it. It's probably one of my favourite films in the world.
The story is about Three men looking for hidden treasure worth $200,000, as one person knows a bit each.Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach are all fantastic and play the parts very well indeed. The Extra 15 minutes are cool as well ( you can tell that Eli Wallach's voice is a lot older).

The Special Features are so good as well, i especially like the doccumentry where they show how they got this 1966 film into DVD and how they got the extra parts onto the film.

One Slight negative is that the Audio Commentry by Richard Schnickel tends to be slow and off the point on the film.

Apart from that, this film is fantastic. I strongly Recommened it to you.

 'want this on 'blu-ray' ?

Top 100  Reviewer Top 100 DVD Reviewer Number 1 Music Reviewer

has to be one of the all time great western's, one of the now legendary 'spagetti' westerns from the sixties.
not only did these new-wave movies see 'westerns' change forever but also launched 'clint eastwood' from a co-star roll in the successful 't.v' western series 'rawhide' to 'super-stardom'
obviously 'clint' went on to star in many other successful movies including of course the 'iconic' 'dirty harry' films, but also groom a very credible career as a director of some 'great movies'
this film as well as being remembered for it's gritty content it also harbours a huge ammount of humour, not to mention one of the most memorable 'music' scores of all time, simply a great western, if you haven't seen it yet you have missed out, if like me you've seen it a few times, you'll know what i mean.
this has just been released on 'region 1' blu-ray, the film is not exclusivley 'region' 'a' it will play on your 'region' 'b' player.
( i have now bought 7 north- american blu-ray films,( from 'play' u.s.a') '6' have played on my 'region' 'b' 'blu-ray' player.
hope you find this review helpful.

Being just 18 years old, many people were surprised that I even knew this film existed or the fact that I liked it. It is my favourite film of all time (bearing in mind this is the first "dollars" film I watched), The speacial features enhance that understanding of the contempoary period to which the film is set in and the scores by Ennio Morricone intensifies Sergio's trademark circular duel arena standoff which has you glued to the screen. Great stuff!

 A truly great western

This is one of the all time greats, it is the best Sergio Leone film. Eli Wallach is fantastic as Tuco, with Eastwood and Van Cleef putting in a good performance.
It is in my top 5 greatest films of all time.
